The inaugural Bollywood Night was an absolute hit! We were thrilled to welcome 230 guests at Bankstown League Club, raising an astounding $32,000 for Giant Steps, supporting children and adults on the autism spectrum. The vibrant night was filled with unforgettable highlights: - Sirens Dance wowed the crowd with a stunning performance and got everyone moving with Bollywood dance lessons. - Carter Barnes' music complementing the 2024 Ball video was beautiful. - Our sold-out lucky dip and sought-after stalls featuring clothing, homewares, food, jewellery, and more. - A special shout out to Giant Steps dad, Rob Rossano, for once again serving as an incredible MC! Thank you to Shirani and Ryan Gomes for organising this sold-out event and raising $10,000 in donations from family and friends. We all look forward to Bollywood Night 2025! --- #GiantStepsCharityEvents #GiantSteps #BollywoodNight #AutismSupport #SpecialEducation

On Friday, Adult Autism Services (AAS) participants across our three pod groups attended the Australian Chamber Orchestra and enjoyed a beautiful Mendelssohn and Bach Relaxed Performance. Many of our cohort find it incredibly difficult to access different spaces and rarely have the opportunity to engage in live performances. The staff at the ACO were considerate and thoughtful, always checking in to offer support. All the participants scheduled to attend the performance successfully entered the space, exceeding our expectations. Our Support Workers came back elated and inspired to coordinate another big group outing. The most meaningful part of our outing was the absolute silence of our participants during the performance! - Semray Ali, Director of Adult Autism Services Australian Chamber Orchestra | #AdultAutismServices #autismsupport #GiantSteps

Lawn bowls, live music, entertainment, incredible prizes, and the best community—the inaugural Afternoon on the Greens was spectacular! A special thank you to Tony and Erin O’Neill for organising this brilliant event, which raised $34,000! These funds will go towards enhancing our expressive communication and foundation skills programs in Early Years. We’d also like to thank the Insurance Advisernet Australia Foundation for their generous contribution, and to the fantastic MC, Rohan Sawyer. We’re sure everyone is already looking forward to another round in 2025! 🥂 Insurance Advisernet Australia | #GiantStepsCharityEvents #GiantSteps #AfternoonontheGreens #Autismsupport

It’s taken many months to prepare for this day, and finally my sons hair is cut. It’s the little things we take for granted every day which are actually enormous steps in the lives of people living with autism. It’s the many many little things that Giant Steps do that have made a significant difference in my son’s life, and therefore mine. Thank you 🩷💙💛

Parents, students, and staff are delighted with the initiative organised by Giant Steps parent CJ Morello in collaboration with his salons in Rozelle and Newtown. The team from AH Salon, who first visited us last year, continues to work closely with our Occupational Therapy team and staff. Together, they focus on visual sequences, sensory exposure, and processing time, creating an interactive experience tailored to our students' needs. This collaboration has led to fresh haircuts and positive experiences for students working on haircutting as part of their occupational therapy goals. Thank you to hairdressers Suzy and Ellie from AH Salon for visiting and providing wonderful haircutting experiences. #GiantSteps #Autismsupport #Specialeducation

Join us for our upcoming day course, "Supporting Expressive Communication for Autism," where you'll learn practical, multi-modal, and individualised communication strategies to help children enhance their communication skills across various learning environments: https://lnkd.in/eh76YxcT We’ll explore how individuals acquire language and process information, focusing on both speech and non-speech communication systems. You’ll also have the opportunity to observe personalised communication systems in action within classrooms at Giant Steps. A key highlight of the course is the introduction of a communication and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) planning matrix. This tool will guide you in assessing and choosing the most suitable communication strategies for individuals with autism and intellectual delays. We'll also explore potential barriers to implementation and discuss effective strategies to overcome them. This course is ideal for speech pathologists, students, teachers, support staff, childcare educators, and other professionals in health and social services working with individuals with autism and intellectual delays. Note: Completing this course will contribute to 7.5 hours of teacher-directed professional development 1.1.2, 3.1.2, 3.5.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW. --- #AutismHub #GiantSteps #SpecialEducation #AutismSupport #ProfessionalDevelopment #AutismAwareness

Over the weekend, our talented music therapy team attended the 49th AMTA National Music Therapy Conference at Western Sydney University, Parramatta. Lene, Christine, and Bronte presented insightful and well-received papers and research projects. Bronte also participated in a panel of music therapists in transdisciplinary teams, discussing collaboration and NDIS requirements. The conference provided an excellent opportunity for our team to network with other professionals in special education and autism. Thank you to this dedicated Giant Steps team for their expertise and commitment.
