We are excited to share Albury Riverside Precinct has won the 2024 AILA National Regional Achievement Award, following our two NSW AILA Awards for Regional Achievement Award and Parks and Open Space Award.     This cross-category award recognises landscape architecture that significantly improves regional Australia's healthy communities and/or built and natural environments.      Our Cities and Living sector team designed this precinct in collaboration with our client, AlburyCity Council, and several design partners.    Albury Wodonga, located in the lands of Wiradjuri, Waveroo and Dhudhuroa people, is Australia’s 20th largest city and one of the largest single regional inland communities.  This project has transformed a section of the river and changed how residents and visitors interact with the Murray River and its surrounding open space.     The vision for the riverside precinct was to “embrace the river.” It is a prime example of reconnecting a community's civic life to its environmental and cultural setting.     Our design focuses on inclusivity and accessibility, meaning this natural asset can be appreciated by all. It intends to enhance the community’s social and environmental wellbeing. It provides passive and active recreational use, improves connectivity for the community, and opens spaces for everyday use and events.    Congratulations to AlburyCity council and our collaborators on this award.  Read more about this project >> https://lnkd.in/gkwKJNzj GroupGSA team: John Holland, Zhipeng (Zhi) Cai, Hong Zhang     Collaborators:   Builder: EXCELL GRAY BRUNI PTY LTD Engineer: Guthrie McGoldrick Consulting Engineers Services Engineer: Building Services Group Ltd Water Engineer: Water Technology Pty Ltd Lighting: Buckford Illumination Group QS: Wilde and Woollard,  Geotech: Civiltest  Pontoon: Fleetwood Urban #regionalaustralia #communitywellbeing #landscapearchitecture #albury #designingforcountry #aila #awards #murrayriver

Isaac Property Approved for Major Western Sydney Hub | The Urban Developer Isaac Property has secured approval from the Sydney Central City Planning Panel for a mixed-use development in the Norwest business precinct, after it was endorsed by The Hills Shire Council. The new mixed-use development will be built on a 6621sq m site at 14-16 Brookhollow Avenue, opposite the Norwest Metro Station. Our Mixed-Use, Retail, and Industrial Sector team worked with our client to navigate the rigorous Design Review Panel with our client to achieve unanimous approval from The Sydney Central City Planning Panel. Associate Director Noura Thaha said the development aimed to capitalise on Norwest’s day and night economy. “We’re shifting away from the outdated nine-to-five economy in business parks, which no longer work and are lifeless after hours,” Thaha said. Urbis director Simon Wilkes worked with us on the project and said it was “intended to be a significant strategic centre and the largest employment centre for north-west Sydney”. Lake Jindabyne Foreshore Design | Live for Community Consultation. Our Cities and Places team is proud to be engaged by The Snowy Monaro Regional Council to plan and design upgrades along the Lake Jindabyne Foreshore. Government of New South Wales (NSW Government) is investing in seven priority projects at the Snowy Mountains and Jindabyne Precinct. This is just one of the many priority projects forming part of a 40-year vision to support the development of tourism opportunities, improve community amenities, support a diverse housing supply, and create long-term sustainable growth in regional areas. Lake Jindabyne and the Jindabyne Township share a rich history in their relationship with Monero-Ngarigo Country, European culture, and the Snowy Mountains alpine region. Better connectivity, with improved and new public and recreational spaces, is at the design forefront. Stakeholder consultations have acknowledged the community's and Traditional Owners' passion for sharing many vital stories. As a key tourist destination, the community identified essential themes that could be represented on the Cultural and Educational Trail to preserve and share knowledge of the local area's history and people. Now, considering all the feedback during the master planning concept design phase, the comprehensive concept design package for the Lake Jindabyne Foreshore is seeking community feedback.   The key areas of the design package include: - Shared User Path - Cultural and Educational Trail - Foreshore Trail Connection - The Sailing Club - Claypits - Waterfront Park - Banjo Paterson Park, including pump track and expanded playground. Clare O'Brien O’Brien, Associate Landscape Architect and project lead, said, "It’s been a remarkable journey so far working in collaboration with the Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation team, our design partners Indesco SAS and Common Ground Trails, and key community stakeholders. We’re honored to bring this area’s rich history to life, celebrate the outdoors and improve amenity for all users year-round. We’re excited to hear more community feedback and continue progressing toward the long-term vision." These homes will accommodate approximately 130 social housing residents. Wonderful to see progress on this housing project today in Sydney along with His Majesty King Charles, NSW Premier Chris Minns and Housing Minister Rose Jackson. It will provide a home to around 130 people when complete, and during construction apprentices from The King’s Trust are being employed. We spoke with locals who are excited for the new residents to join the neighbourhood. Getting more homes built means more roofs over the heads of Australians.

The Waterfront Shell Cove | A coastal community with a cultural and commercial heart It is a privilege to build long-term partnerships with our clients. With our client, Frasers Property Limited, who jointly developed the project with the Shellharbour City Council, our Cities and Places team has been proud to work on Shell Cove since 2013.   The precinct is a stunning, significant coastal, master-planned residential, commercial, and tourist development in the Shell Harbour local government area. It includes a man-made inshore harbour and its surrounding waterfront precincts, including a 270-berth marina.   The precinct connects the town centre to surrounding beaches, the breakwater and the harbour entry. The public area incorporates the town centre, prominent boardwalks, jetties, waterfront parklands and nearby beaches, offering diverse ways to access and connect to the water’s edge.   As public realm designers, we focused on creating a unique space to provide access to the waterfront marina and retail area, catering to the needs of the community, residents, and tourists.   We have meticulously planned every aspect, from the grand strategy of master planning to the intricate details of public space design, landscape design, public realm, seating, lighting, water features, the public domain, and open space balustrade and planting.   Over 10 years later, our team continues the landscape architecture work around areas including: - The Wetland Park/Sophia Park – in the middle of the residential precinct - Three apartment complexes - Retail and mixed-use areas - Marina and community spaces   For us, it’s about design thinking from the big picture to the fine details.    GroupGSA team: John Holland, Federico Zanet, Rita Fernandes, Steven Hammond, Matthew Carlton Read more about the progress of this project | https://lnkd.in/gsUXaM3B #landscapearchitecture #architecture #community #mixeduse #masterplanning #design

The Kurnell Peninsula – a future vibrant coastal community Along with our collaborator Urbis, we are pleased to announce this project has been identified as a state-assessed planning proposal by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. It is recognised for its strategic importance in providing public benefit and significantly contributing to housing targets, employment, tourism, and biodiversity outcomes. The Kurnell Peninsula is located on the southern shores of Botany Bay in Sydney's south and will become a vibrant and resilient coastal community that honours its rich cultural heritage. It will restore the natural environment to foster a cohesive and interconnected ecological system. The Besmaw Master Plan incorporates a context-driven, whole-of-site approach. It restores key north-south ecological corridors linking Botany Bay to Bate Bay and contributes to the continued regeneration of the coastal foreshore environment. Public open space and landscaping represent approximately two-thirds of the 210-hectare site, amongst new neighbourhood centres delivering 4,300 new homes in an ecologically and culturally rich landscape. The Master Plan provides various opportunities to regenerate and reignite Country and cultural practices. Embedding First Nations and site-specific knowledge within and throughout the design process, led by Yerrabingin Pty Ltd, has been integral to the overall success of outcomes for Country and community. How did you get to work today? It’s National #Ride2Work day 10 million Australians ride every year, and only 200,000 ride to work. Embracing cycling does more than ease congestion. By opting for bikes, we can reduce the transport system's greenhouse gas emissions. Cycling changes movement patterns in how people get from place to place, between home, work, and play. By adding cycling networks to our cities, we increase permeability, opening more places for more people. As a result, urban areas become more vibrant, better connected, and enlivened, which is good for a sense of community, generates footfall for local businesses, and contributes to increased real estate value for property owners. Delivering an integrated network of cycleways and cycle-friendly streets is key to achieving positive urban outcomes for our cities. Our Cities and Places teams have designed several cycleways, including these in Sydney: > Bourke Street Cycleway - a multi-award winner, including the RTA NSW Award for Excellence in Landscape Architecture and On-Road Infrastructure Projects > Randwick Cycleways > Bay Run, Lilyfield https://lnkd.in/gXkA_hAc Read more in our article by Steven Hammond 'Cycleway design: key considerations for mobilising our cities' | https://lnkd.in/dy6Gt7id #landscapearchitecture #cyclewaydesign #cycleways

Are we truly ready to pivot to transport-oriented development? | Sustainability Summit Sydney, 14 November Our Director, Lisa-Maree Carrigan, will be on the panel of sustainability leaders and says: “Our collective capacity to realise the potential of the TOD SEPP will require political will, community acceptance and a reasoned approach to heritage. The aligning of these three is required because for too long there has been both community and planning resistance to density near amenity, with the blunt instrument of the SEPP as a result."
