Welcome to our new Chair Karen Brown, and Board member Billie Giles-Corti. Ms Brown has been appointed as Chair of both Healthway and Lotterywest Boards, commencing 1 September 2024. She will replace Professor Peter Klinken AC as Chair, who retires after a six-year tenure. Professor Giles-Corti fills the vacancy by Healthway Board member The Hon. Jim McGinty AM, who is also retiring after serving six years. We'd like to thank Professor Klinken AC and The Hon. Jim McGinty AM for their outstanding contributions to advancing health promotion outcomes in our State. Thanks to the West Australian Football Commission for hosting the Tackle Your Feelings workshop for staff this week. The workshop covered supporting the mental health of your team, how to recognise signs of poor mental wellbeing, and when and where to get help. By encouraging these conversations and working together we can ensure everyone feels safe and supported. The afternoon created a valuable opportunity for people in the arts sector to informally meet and share their creative stories and ideas that will benefit the health and wellbeing of Western Australians. We welcome the passing of world-first legalisation, which will play a crucial role in safeguarding our young people from vaping harms. We’d like to congratulate Minister for Health and Aged Care The Hon Mark Butler MP for his leadership, and our advocacy partner, the Australian Council on Smoking and Health, along with all public health organisations that have played a role in supporting the Vaping Reforms Bill.   The new legislation means.... 🛑 Banning and restricting the importation, manufacturing, and supply of vapes to keep them out of reach of children. 🛑 Ending marketing and advertising of vapes to children and young people. 🛑 Supporting adults to quit smoking by ensuring vapes are only available in pharmacies following a consultation with a pharmacist. 🛑 Introducing penalties for non-pharmacy retailers who possess vapes. While these reforms come into effect, we continue to remain committed to supporting ongoing advocacy, public education, and support for those trying to quit.
