  • The Green Building Council of Australia has recently launched the new Green Star Communities v2 rating tool: a clearer, more ambitious framework that reflects contemporary sustainability standards and global challenges, to guide the planning, design and delivery of Australian precincts and master planned communities. In the launch of our new series, Sustainability Insights, Gavin Ashley and Joshua McLennan from our Better Cities & Regions team unpack the key updates in the new v2 rating tool and what they mean for the certification of your next precinct project. • We wrapped up 2024 with a hands-on plastics recycling workshop led by the legends at Precious Plastics Melbourne, hosted at Space of Waste. It was incredible to see so many makers and doers stepping up to rethink our waste crisis—let’s face it, it’s always better to be a pirate than join the navy. Huge thanks to Tim McNamara for walking us through the space and to Bill Verhagen for showing us how to transform humble plastic bottle lids into carabiners, plant pots and even yoyos.🪀 The HIP V. HYPE team is taking a well-earned break and will be back on deck in January, ready to dive into 2025. To our clients and collaborators—thank you. Working alongside you to deliver outcomes that truly matter is what drives us. Wishing you all a safe, relaxing and joyful holiday season…!!

  • Keep an eye out for our team, delivering Melbourne-made, carbon neutral panettones to our clients and collaborators, from our friends at Small Axe Deli. Made carbon neutral thanks to our Better Buildings team (shout out David Mahony and Connor Vaux), who conducted a Life Cycle Analysis to measure the emissions associated with the making of each panettone. HIP V. HYPE has offset (with Climate Active certified carbon credits) 3.98KG Co2e per panettone—an equivalent effective carbon footprint of firing up your summer BBQ for 10 minutes. 🌭 Ingredients count for 49% of the overall footprint, with butter, milk and egg having the highest carbon impact. Enjoy irresponsibly…

  • The City of Hobart acknowledges the pressing need to expand housing supply, with a particular emphasis on increasing access to affordable rental options. HV.H Founder Liam Wallis was pleased to contribute to yesterday’s discussion, exploring strategies to repurpose under-utilised land and buildings in well-connected locations with access to transport, employment hubs and essential amenities. We’re eager to see how the Hobart community will embrace these opportunities.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the Hobart Housing Forum today. This day would not have been possible without our compère Scott Balmforth who conducted two engaging discussions, one with Eleri Morgan-Thomas, Ellen Witte, Emma Riley, Neil Noye and David Clerk, and a second with James Senior, Liam Wallis, Siobhan Fernantzen and Brian Motz. With apologies from Rory Hunter who could not make it due to unforeseen weather events. Your input, both in the lead up to and during the event, has been insightful. We look forward to further considering the feedback gathered during the roundtable discussion and how this information can be used to inform the Hobart Housing Strategy with City of Hobart. We look forward to many more conversations with the community on this subject. Finally, thank you to all of the council staff who worked together to organise this event.
