Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) impacts about 40% of women, but it is often shrouded in secrecy and seldom talked about - despite its debilitating nature. Sally M., our POP advocate, shares part of her experience with the condition in the video above, and in today's The Age. Our POP researchers here at Hudson Institute are developing new stem cell-based prevention and treatment options with the potential to revolutionise therapies for pelvic floor regeneration and enable personalised medicine for women.

We are home to the #ChildhoodCancer Model Atlas (#CCMA) - the world’s largest collection of high-risk paediatric cancer cell lines, containing over 400 childhood cancer cell lines, thanks to active collaborations with nearly 50 cancer research institutes, universities and academic medical centres. The CCMA provides cancer researchers globally an open-source bank of childhood cancer tumour tissue samples complemented by advanced artificial intelligence (AI) data-mining tools. Cade Watts should be enjoying the footy finals this weekend surrounded by friends and his dad, former Western Bulldogs AFL player Jason Watts. 🏉 ❤️ Tragically, Cade passed away last year, from an aggressive cancer, #EwingsSarcoma, just two weeks shy of his 16th birthday. Being born #Preterm is a major risk factor for life-changing #BrainInjury 🧠 👶🏾 Dr Nhi Tran and A/Prof Flora Wong have uncovered a key process that causes preterm brain injury, offering hope that new, targeted treatments could be created. The study looks at the effects of infection before birth (intrauterine inflammation), specifically at the intersection of neurons and brain blood vessels (neurovascular unit). They also assessed the cerebral effects of dopamine – a drug often used to treat low blood pressure, or hypotension, in preterm infants. On Sunday, the team from our Centre for Cancer Research took part in Connor’s Run to show their support for the courageous children battling brain cancer - the most fatal of all childhood cancers - and to fund the #Research needed to ultimately eradicate paediatric brain cancer. Tune into A/Prof Jason Cain's fascinating TEDx Talk, looking at one of the biggest challenges in treating #ChildhoodCancer. No two #Cancers are identical, yet typically patients receive the same treatment, and the outcomes can vary enormously.👩🏼🔬 Technology now allows a more detailed understanding of individual patient tumours, so researchers like A/Prof Cain are working toward individualised therapy - improving survival rates and reducing the side-effects of treatment.
