As young voters outnumber older generations for the first time, Professor Philippa Collin told SBS World News why political parties can’t afford to ignore them.
With election fever now taking hold nationwide, it was great to see Y&R's Co-Director Prof. Philippa Collin interviewed on SBS World News last night. The story highlighted the fact that this election will see more Gen Z and Millennial voters than older generations (Boomers and Gen X) for the first time ever. Prof Collin was making the point that political parties and candidates ignore the views of young voters at their peril and that greater investment in civics education can only strengthen our democracy. How can we create a more inclusive future for queer First Nations people? Professor Corrinne Sullivan recently spoke with National Indigenous Television (NITV) for their story, "The Mental Health Challenges Facing Queer Mob." She highlights the unique struggles queer First Nations people face, calling it a “double-edged sword of discrimination.” Her research explores the impact of racism and queerphobia, cultural identity challenges, and the lack of inclusive services, revealing how some queer mob experience exclusion within their own communities. Despite these hardships, she celebrates their resilience, emphasizing the power of “big queer mob love” in fostering connection, strength, and advocacy for a more inclusive future.
