What better way to kick off the Spring conference mayhem than by hanging with the most forward-thinking GCs in NYC. Catch me at the Economist's General Counsel Summit this Thursday! The agenda is unsurprisingly GenAI-centric, which is a trend we've been seeing at Josef too – the push for change is coming from the top. Key themes include trust, control, and risk surrounding the tech. It goes to show there’s clearly an appetite for the tech—companies just want solutions that they can deploy in the safest, most controlled way possible. It's been a week since #CLOCAPAC wrapped, and I'm still buzzing! From the workshop Josef hosted on whether to build or buy legal GenAI, to the hours spent deep in conversation with the best and brightest of APAC's legalops community, it was an incredible experience. The thing that made CLOC a success (and tbh the thing that makes or breaks every conference I go to) was how much time I got to spend with friends, old and new. We're all learning so much so fast, and I love how speed-talking and listening at a conference acts as an accelerant. Thank you to everyone who made it possible! Special shoutouts to Anna Golovsky, Katrina Gowans and Matthew Duncan on the CLOC organising committee, Jenn McCarron for coming to Sydney to share her wisdom, Claire Nuske for inspiring a room full of people with Bupa's success stories and my team at Josef for making it all possible. Tick tock, #CLOCAPAC is off, but the party don't stop! So good to be in Sydney this week and catch up with old friends and meet new faces. Loads of interesting and provocative discussions about the BS and the brilliant aspects of GenAI. Some things I'll take away: 1. Eat that frog. New tech like GenAI can be both attractive and daunting. Start somewhere and experiment! Use the opportunity to learn, to understand the capabilities, strengths & limitations of the tech, to pinpoint high value use cases, and to develop the ways of working that will underpin larger scale success. 2. Accuracy really matters when it comes to legal and compliance: To deliver reliable GenAI tools for legal content, human-in-the-loop training is essential. 3. Connection makes things tick. Whether it's the relationship between legalops and the business, between a tech partner and a customer, or between a law firm and its client - trust is the underpinning element in partnerships that get big things done. And opportunities to come together and share experiences, war stories, insights (and laughs) are such an important part of fostering that connection and community.
