We love it when our customers win big! 👏 Last month, UK law firm TLT LLP won Legal Technology Team of the Year for a digital training solution developed in collaboration with telco giant Vodafone (and built on Josef!). One of the expert minds behind the tool and broader digital innovation at TLT is Senior Legal Technologist Thomas Stone. We just *had* to catch up. In our latest fireside chat, hosted by Co-founder and COO Sam Flynn, Tom shares what trends he's seeing on the ground implementing tech both within TLT and with in-house clients. He explains: 🧮 How in-house lawyers are fast becoming data-driven juggernauts 💡 How GenAI has given lawyers the inspiration to innovate more than ever 🏆 Why "There’s nothing better than winning an award with a client" ... and more! Huge congrats to the FutureLaw team for the win and big thanks to Tom for the chat. 👉 Watch the interview, or read the quick recap: https://lnkd.in/gAgMXVbt

GenAI reliability testing—what is it? What challenges does GenAI pose for legal and compliance? How can you get tools out that your team really trust? It was great to chat with Ali Cook and Sam Flynn about all of this during our recent fireside chat. We’ve learned so much from developing Josef’s GenAI reliability framework in collaboration with Cornell and NYU. In this quick snippet, I bring up phrasing. As attorneys, we often get caught up in phrasing, but IMO we don’t need to sweat the small stuff if we want to get tools to those who need them ASAP. The answer lies in taking a risk-based approach. LLMs are liars! (Well, they can be without the right controls and guardrails: looking at you Josef Q 😉) When working with probabilistic programs, you need to know that the tool is going to produce reliable outputs, particularly in high-risk areas like legal & compliance. But how can you get the certainty you need? In conversation with Josef Co-founder and COO Sam Flynn, Josef’s resident legaltech experts Ali Cook and Jake Brown explain Josef’s reliability testing methodology and practical tips for customers: 1️⃣ Don’t sweat the small stuff 2️⃣ Bring a healthy dose of skepticism 3️⃣ Center your users: don’t fall for the red-herrings 👉 Watch the team's chat, or read their tips in full: https://lnkd.in/g_bDpN3x

Teamwork makes the dream work! 👏✨ Last week, Melbourne Law School and Moonee Valley Legal Service launched FineFixer 2.0, a self-service tool that helps people navigate fines and advocate for fairer outcomes. Built on Josef by students at the University of Melbourne, the latest iteration of FineFixer: 🗣️ Provides practical advice 📚 Auto-generates support letters and application forms, and 🧭 Refers users to the most relevant community legal center if their case requires 1:1 help. The result? More people can help themselves, and legal aid lawyers across the state have more time to assist those with more complex cases. This is a huge win! Shout out to UoM’s Gary Cazalet for connecting MVLS with his expert student builders at the Law Apps clinic. Congrats to Brett Morton, Erin Buckey and the team at MVLS for making an already helpful resource even better! And kudos to team Josef for building the tech that makes access to justice projects like these truly come to life. 👉 Find FineFixer 2.0 here: https://lnkd.in/gV_eJsqH

I feel like I've just caught my breath after #ALTACON last week! It was an honour to open the conference, and then deliver a workshop on automation with Josef. Capping it off with a seat on the day's closing panel was the icing on the cake. The energy and passion for Australian legaltech is infectious! Our community continues to innovate and grow in remarkable ways. You can read some more lessons from the event here: https://lnkd.in/gY6PFBgw Thanks to everyone who made ALTACON such a success! Congratulations to ALPMA: Australasian Legal Practice Management Association and ALTA - Australian Legal Technology Association. Already excited for next year 🚀

"Unshackle knowledge with AI" – Alex Herrity, 2024 Is this man a poet, or adidas's legal ops superstar? Why not both! As always, I loved sitting down with my friend Alex to talk all things legaltech and legal ops. My favorite insights from this one: - Legal Ops needs to get aligned with the rest of the business. Is it just "Ops" now? 👯 - Don't lock your knowledge in the "prison" of a static document: unlock it with automation and AI 👮♀ - Building your own tech can work, but it's an "expensive game" to play 💰 Have a listen and let me know your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/eCZFYHpk

What better way to kick off the Spring conference mayhem than by hanging with the most forward-thinking GCs in NYC. Catch me at the Economist's General Counsel Summit this Thursday! The agenda is unsurprisingly GenAI-centric, which is a trend we've been seeing at Josef too – the push for change is coming from the top. Key themes include trust, control, and risk surrounding the tech. It goes to show there’s clearly an appetite for the tech—companies just want solutions that they can deploy in the safest, most controlled way possible. If you’re heading to the summit and want to chat, DM me.

It's been a week since #CLOCAPAC wrapped, and I'm still buzzing! From the workshop Josef hosted on whether to build or buy legal GenAI, to the hours spent deep in conversation with the best and brightest of APAC's legalops community, it was an incredible experience. The thing that made CLOC a success (and tbh the thing that makes or breaks every conference I go to) was how much time I got to spend with friends, old and new. We're all learning so much so fast, and I love how speed-talking and listening at a conference acts as an accelerant. Thank you to everyone who made it possible! Special shoutouts to Anna Golovsky, Katrina Gowans and Matthew Duncan on the CLOC organising committee, Jenn McCarron for coming to Sydney to share her wisdom, Claire Nuske for inspiring a room full of people with Bupa's success stories and my team at Josef for making it all possible. Can't wait for the next one!
