It's R U OK story time (trigger warning) Today, we're stepping forward and leading with vulnerability to share Liz's personal burnout journey. 💛 Do you find it hard to say NO without feeling guilty? Are you feeling overwhelmed and can't seem to catch up? Then, lean in ... We've got a story to tell. Struggle with sleep, battle recurring illness, suffer from joint pain, feel apathy at work or have become that negative person in the room? These were some of her warning signs ... the symptoms that she brushed aside as the overwhelm grew and eventually hit her like a brick in the face. Liz asked for help and it wasn't forthcoming, in the end - by the time she asked it was too late anyway - She'd already slid down the slippery slide of burnout. Liz's clinical diagnosis came after she left her 25-year corporate career and it was the most difficult experience of her life, after losing a parent. Some days she was only capable of getting herself out of bed, having breakfast and reading a book ... it was horrid. After 6 months of intense therapy, she came to realised that her lack of boundaries and hesitation to ask for help impacted her mental health and wellbeing. She got comfortable with the belief that setting boundaries isn't a weakness – it's an act of self care and respect. Liz's biggest single learning was how important boundaries are to set and uphold. 🙅🏻 Let's be brutally honest, no one will tell you to work fewer hours and on weekends ... no one is coming to rescue you. As a leader, you have a responsibility to lead by example and set boundaries around your work/life balance.  Please DON'T WAIT for R U OK Day to check in on someone. Know your colleagues well enough to notice out of character behaviour. Start by asking them how they're feeling, listen without judgement, encourage them to take action and continue to check in on them. Don't forget to access your employee assistance program (EAP), or if you don't have EAP speak to your GP to access a mental health plan. When did you last sit down to review 164 submissions? It's that time again ... voting for funding recipients for 100 Women grants. More than 164 applications were received from grassroots organisations running local, national and global initiatives that support and empower women and girls. Shout out to the grant committee volunteers led by Kristy Rodwell, for their work to deliver the 8 finalists. 👏 It was such an inspiring night last week, hearing from Kristy about each of the finalists and how they will use their grants. All very worthy causes and Liz we're not sure how she will choose between them when she sit down to vote.
