Let's talk about it! This mental health month, let's talk about the 10-session limit on Medicare-rebated psychology services, it is not enough. For many individuals, the 10-session cap is simply not enough to support them. We encourage you to stand with us and sign the petition to end the 10-session cap. Let's get Australians the psychology care they need. An Australian national advocacy organisation for consumers, families and carers in mental health
About us
Lived Experience Australia advocates for people with a mental illness and their families and carers to make positive changes in mental health policy, planning and decision making at local, state and National levels to create a better mental health system. We formed in 2002 and were previously known as the Private Mental Health Consumer Carer Network (Australia). Lived Experience Australia was established to promote the interests of members of the community requiring private mental health services. While we still advocate for the private sector mental health services, we also now provide national systemic advocacy for consumers, families and carers in all mental health settings. Our mission is to engage, empower and enable choice in mental health. We promote effective consumer, family and carer advocacy as the drive force behind all changes in mental health services (we listen to your views, ideas and experiences and use these to create positive changes in the mental health system in Australia with government departments, associations and training institutions). We do not provide mental health services directly, but we do advocate for quality, inclusive and responsive mental health services for everyone in the community. Join us to stay informed with the latest mental health information for consumers, families, carers and health professionals and to have your say on the things that really matter.

Most research in mental health services is driven by clinicians and researchers. Mental health service users rarely get an opportunity to be involved in decisions upfront about what research needs to be done to improve quality of care. If you have lived or living experience of enduring mental health challlenges, this is an opportunity to participate in a study that aims to develop a research agenda for the improvement of mental health services based on the experiences of service users. If you choose to participate, you will be asked to describe your interactions over time with mental health services through an interview. This interview will be conducted by telephone or zoom and is likely to take between 60 and 90 minutes. Ethics Approval MUHREC project ID – 43955 To express your interest in participating or for any questions, please contact the chief investigator Dr Anton Isaacs directly via the contact details below. Dr. Anton Isaacs at anton.isaacs@monash.edu Please note Lived Experience Australia is not directly organising the interviews.

I’m Psychological safety is essential for effective service delivery in mental health organisations. If you don’t feel safe and empowered at work, how can people accessing your services feel safe and empowered? In mental health settings, questioning decisions, suggesting new ideas or expressing concerns is crucial for effective service delivery and recovery-oriented approaches. Last week we were pleased to attend the 5th Anniversary of the Borderline Personality Disorder Collaborative (BPDCo), a statewide service in South Australia that LEA, through Janne McMahon OAM was instrumental in gaining funding to establish. Our commitment to advocacy for BPD has continued since we started in 2002 and we were pleased to celebrate the ongoing contributions that BPDCo provides for consumers, families, carers and kin in South Australia.
