(L-R) Three (of four) generations of Marr: Simon Marr, Gordon Ernest Marr, Gordon Marr, Gordon J. Marr. A fascination for cranes, problem-solving and innovative thinking has always been in our genes. It all began in 1926 when doctors told our founder, Gordon Robert Marr, that he would probably die young due to a chronic lung disease. He left school at the age of 16 and started working for his father’s steel foundary and fabrication business, E.A. Marr and Sons. Whilst still a teenager, Gordon designed one of Sydney’s first cranes after identifying the need for a more practical solution to installing the steel fittings the foundry was delivering around the city. Eventually, the foundry business was sold but the crane operations prospered trading as Marr Contracting and built our reputation as ‘The Men from Marr’s’. Gordon lived to the ripe old age of 87, and from that first crane he built in Sydney we've grown our fleet – from the tiny Marr 40R (M40R) to the #M2480D Heavy Lift Luffer (HLL) – to be the most unique selection of tower cranes in the world. #marrcontracting #themenfrommarrs #marrcranes #towercranes #heavylifting #australianinnovation

UK: Marr Contracting has been awarded the contract to deliver specialised heavy lifting crane services on the construction of HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd Old Oak Common Station superstructure. The contract was awarded by the Balfour Beatty VINCI SYSTRA Joint Venture (BBVSJV) after a rigorous and competitive tender process. Leveraging Marr’s expertise as global tower crane specialists will add value to BBVSJV’s world-class strengths in the design, management and delivery of complex infrastructure projects. Collaborating with BBVSJV’s engineering and construction team, Marr developed a three-crane solution − including two 330-tonne capacity #M2480D heavy lift luffing cranes, supported by a 96-tonne capacity M860DX – that declutters the site and takes complexity out of cranage and construction on the project. “Drawing on Marr’s experience in successfully delivering similar projects in Australia, we have demonstrated that there is an alternative approach to projects of this scale that is safer and more efficient. We are excited to introduce our technology, which has only recently become readily available in the UK, to this project” said Steve Ryder, General Manager – International, Marr Contracting. “Key to the successes we have achieved for end-clients like Sydney Metro and Cross River Rail in Australia has been the willingness of project teams to engage us early in the planning stages. Similarly, BBVSJV’s innovative thinking about how cranage solutions can be procured and delivered is a potentially game-changing approach for this important infrastructure project,” said Marr’s Managing Director, Simon Marr. Marr’s cranes are expected to be onsite from early 2025. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gCF5v8w4 #marrcontracting #marrcranes #heavylifting #towercranes #infrastructureprojects

Earlier this month a tandem crane lift was undertaken for the first time on the Powerhouse Parramatta project. Using two or more cranes at the same time to lift a single load is a complex activity in the construction industry requiring great skill, careful planning and methodology to ensure safety at all times. In this instance, it was required because the weight load of the overall lift at 69.5 tonnes exceeded Tower Crane 2’s lifting capacity, and therefore Tower Crane 3 was recruited to share the load. When our client, the operator of one of Australia’s most strategically important offshore gas platforms, planned to expand its operations, they turned to Marr for a heavy lift solution to support their plans for the project. The project relied on a heavy-lifting solution that could install heavy modularised components. With the cranes on the platform unable to meet the required lifting capacity, our client reached out to Marr. Working with our client’s project team and Marr’s crane manufacturer, Favelle Favco Cranes (M) Sdn Bhd, over 16 months, we engineered a system to support a M2480D using the large ‘skid beams’ that were designed to support the drill tower on the platform. With a detailed plan developed to transport and install the #M2480D using the existing Favelle Favco service cranes working on the platform, our M2480D safely unloaded and installed seven main module lifts weighing up to 120 tonnes over a period of four weeks, without incident. According to our client's project manager, “The success of this project required teamwork and detailed coordination through design and crane transportation, to testing and module installation. Marr’s seamlessly integrated into the project to deliver a safe and successfully executed campaign.” See the full case study at: https://lnkd.in/gzjK9SUP #marrcontracting #marrcranes #heavylifting #towercranes #offshoreprojects #naturalgasprojects #engineeringsolutions

Incredible overnight scenes at the Chatswood Chase Shopping Centre Redevelopment with the installation of the first of three tower cranes ⭐🏗 Following the partial demolition of multiple areas, the cranes are taking centre stage on the site for the next phase of construction, with the installations carefully planned to minimise disruption to the operating centre. The new cranes allow the team to reconstruct different sections of the shopping centre and upgrade its facade. Overall, the redevelopment will deliver over 100 new retail stores, including international luxury brands. Following Multiplex’s delivery of the original shopping centre in 1983 and a second phase of work in 1997, this is the third development we’ve had the opportunity to deliver at Chatswood Chase. Stay tuned for more progress updates to come! #builttooutperform

Every year in Australia 190 construction workers die by suicide. That's something we need to talk about. According to recent research shared by the University of Melbourne and MATES in Construction, suicide rates amongst males working in the Australian construction industry are twice as high as for male workers in other sectors. Construction workers are also six times more likely to die by suicide than from an accident at work. That means that looking out for each other and asking, "RUOK?" is just as important as, "Are you clipped on?" And if you need support, reach out for help. It could be the conversation that changes - or even saves - a life, not just today but any day. Like father, like son. Over three generations of leadership - and with the fourth climbing the ranks - a fascination with cranes and solving complex construction challenges is part of our DNA. It's also a genetic bond that is shared across generations of Marr employees, past and present. This Father's Day we dip our hard hats to all the sons and dads, grandfathers and great-grandfathers that have helped shape our business and industry over the past (almost) 100 years. Happy Father's Day! (pictured) Simon Marr (Managing Director), Gordon Ernest 'Senior' Marr (Director), Gordon J.
