It all came down to planning for our NSW overhead wiring team who recently completed complex overhead wiring upgrades for Sydney Trains. 🚆✨ Working with Sydney Trains and drawing on our specialist engineering capabilities in overhead wiring, along with our expertise in temporary works and complex lifts ensured the team could complete the works within the weekend shutdown on the network. 🛠️🔧 More than 80 overhead wiring specialists from across our NSW team, supported by our New Zealand and Victorian teams, came together to: 🚧 Carry out critical dual lifts with a 150-tonne crane and a hi-rail crane to remove the existing structures 🏗️ Remove a life-expired 25-metre-long overhead wiring gantry 🌉 Reconfigure the existing overhead wiring through a complex section of the Sydney Trains network. The collaboration of the team ensured they were consistently ahead of program during the possession, and during the last two shifts, our specialists overhead wiring crew jumped in to assist with a wiring rebuild on an adjoining worksite. These critical works will help maintain reliability of the Sydney Trains network to keep people moving. 🚉 #JohnHollandTransformingLives #ItsAJohnHollandJob #JohnHollandRailAndTransport

We were delighted to host the NSW Minister for Regional Roads and Transport, the Hon. Jenny Aitchison MP, along with the The McKell Institute Institute, for a productive boardroom lunch at the John Holland Sydney Office yesterday. The event focused on three key topics that are close to our hearts: 🏗️ M1 Black Hill-Tomago Project: We had the opportunity to highlight the incredible work our team is doing to enhance capacity in the construction sector through pre-employment programs and local employment in the region. Our three-week pre-employment program is targeted at First Nations and new-to-industry workers and equips participants with real skills to get great jobs in construction! 👷♂️👷♀️ 🏘️ Building Resilient Infrastructure: With the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, it is crucial to ensure that our infrastructure is resilient and can withstand any challenges thrown its way. We engaged in insightful discussions on how we can construct projects that are better equipped to handle these future events and help keep communities safe. 💪 🌱 Energy Transition: As advocates for sustainable development, we firmly believe in delivering the energy transition with minimal disruption to the regional road and transport network. It was a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas, collaborate with industry leaders, and contribute to the future of our sector. We are grateful to the NSW Minister for Regional Roads and Transport and the McKell Institute for their valuable insights and support. For 75 years, John Holland has been transforming lives – and it's hard to think of a building more life transforming than a new hospital 🏥. John Holland's history of building hospitals and critical health infrastructure began in the Top End in 1979, with Darwin's Casuarina Hospital. Construction was originally planned to begin in 1974 – the year that Darwin was decimated by Cyclone Tracy. After supporting Territorians in the aftermath of Australia's deadliest cyclone, John Holland got to work on the Casuarina Hospital in 1976, ahead of it opening in 1979. Since then we've built or upgraded hospitals right across the country, including the Perth Children’s Hospital, the Calvary in Adelaide, Australia's first dedicated cardiac facility, the Victorian Heart Hospital, and Stage 1 of Logan Hospital in Queensland. Today we have more than $3 billion worth of health infrastructure projects underway. We're proud of the role we're playing in keeping people safe and healthy 🙌😊. #JohnHollandTransformingLives #JohnHolland75 #JHPastPresentFuture

It's Indigenous Business Month, so we're taking the opportunity to introduce you to some of the First Nations entrepreneurs from diverse business sectors we partner with every day to deliver the complex and city-shaping infrastructure projects where our strength and capability lies. First up, let's talk about Mirri Mirri: an Indigenous cultural education business based in Sydney. It provides: 🧑🏾💻training for organisations 📚 mainstream education programs for youth, adults and organisations 🎥 media and promotion services 👨👩👧 corporate team building workshops and facilitation 🚀 development training for staff and leaders Which has all been highly valuable for the team at our Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre project in western Sydney where we're working across several local communities and traditional lands. We are proud of our diverse workforce and recognise that everyone at John Holland brings something unique to the table. Over the next few weeks we're highlighting some of the talented people with disabilities at John Holland starting with Senior Project Administrator Nathanial Suttie CPA who shares how flexible working benefits him as an autistic, ADHD person. [🎥 Video description: A man sitting in a chair speaking to camera telling his story whilst holding a fidget spinner. It then shows him on a video call with two female colleagues. Next he is in a meeting with a female colleague and then in the office getting a cup of tea, talking to a male colleague and laughing. 💧 We're up for the challenge to help secure water supply in the Hunter! In what's set to become a key component of Hunter Water's Lower Hunter Water Security Plan, John Holland will deliver the $460 million Belmont Desalination Plant, as part of the $530 million scheme south of Newcastle. With the capacity to supply 15% of the Lower Hunter's average daily needs - or up to 30 million litres of water every day - this state-of-the-art plant will be a game changer for the communities of this major NSW region. From delivering the Gold Coast Desalination Plant in 2009, to the Sydney Desalination Plant in 2012 and several smaller desalination projects in South Australia more recently, we've got the expertise and capability to deliver another transformational outcome in water security. We're thrilled to sign the contract with Hunter Water and look forward to starting work before the end of the year! #JohnHollandTransformingLives

While you were sleeping... 😴 our pipelines team working on the Sydney Water Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre transported a 243-metre pipeline string through the streets of Bonnyrigg Heights and Green Valley! The string was made up of individual pieces of pipeline that had been welded together and then it was pulled along on 18 trolleys into a borehole made by a horizontal directional drilling (HDD) machine - all bypassing a major busway, busy intersection and creek! And as far as big pieces of pipe go, there's been a few, including: 💦 19 horizontal directional drills - between 100 metres and 700 metres long 💦 18,718 metres of brine pipeline installed 💦 15,095 metres of treated water pipeline installed Check out how the team transported this massive pipe through Green Valley and Bonnyrigg Heights below 👇🏾 #JohnHollandTransformingLives #ItsAJohnHollandJob #RecycledWater

"You're not only supporting a small business owner, you're supporting a whole community"   Over the last two years I've had the pleasure of working with and getting to know local photographer Tiffany Garvie.   She's been there to capture all our major project milestones but more than that, she has been so open and genuine in having conversations with our team around her background, professional journey and the importance of First Nation procurement.   October is Indigenous Business Month and we asked Tiff to share her experience working with John Holland and about the broader impact of procuring through First Nations businesses. Thank you for sharing with us Tiffany Garvie.   #IndigenousBusinessMonth #IBM2024 #MakingOurMark

🙌🏼 Exciting Milestone at the T2D Project! ✍️ It was an extraordinary Friday at the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project as the South Australian Government and the T2D Alliance confirmed the purchase of three state-of-the-art tunnel boring machines (TBMs) from Herrenknecht AG. This historic step was recently finalised at Herrenknecht headquarters in Germany, where Tunnelling General Manager David Hake attended the signing of the contracts. With the procurement of an additional TBM, the T2D Alliance, comprising John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs, and Ventia, can now construct both the north and south tunnels simultaneously. This strategic investment supports our target to meet the 2031 deadline and potentially complete this transformative project ahead of schedule. This announcement comes on the heels of the main construction contract signing, affirming our alliance's commitment to delivering South Australia's most significant infrastructure project. As we gear up for the main construction works set to kick off in 2025, with tunnelling anticipated to start in the latter half of 2026, John Holland is proud to be at the forefront of shaping South Australia's future. #JohnHollandTransformingLives #ItsAJohnHollandJob #JohnHollandT2DAlliance
