Lest we forget. ANZAC Day, observed annually on April 25th, commemorates the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps' landing at Gallipoli, Turkey, in 1915 during World War I. This day honours the courage, sacrifice, and camaraderie of those who served in the Gallipoli campaign and in all subsequent wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. It reflects on the costs of war and celebrates the enduring ANZAC spirit of bravery, mateship, and resilience, symbolising a deep sense of national pride and gratitude towards all servicemen and women from Australia and New Zealand. Today, on ANZAC Day, Healthcare Australia solemnly commemorates the courage, spirit, and sacrifice of the men and women who have served and continue to serve in Australia and New Zealand. Focusing on healthcare, we wish to highlight the thousands of nurses who were deployed overseas during World War I and in subsequent conflicts. These nurses provided care to wounded soldiers and civilians in the most confronting conditions and gravest of circumstances. These wartime nurses simultaneously demonstrated the evolving role of nursing but also underscores the changing role of women in society and in the military. We extend our heartfelt thanks to those who continue to serve others through the healthcare profession in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations today.
