Despite the recent cut in US interest rates, it’s possible that a vicious economic cycle is already underway in America. Meanwhile, the Australian company reporting season gave investors plenty to mull over, including valuation expansion despite falling consensus earnings expectations. All up, it’s a complex brew delved into by Senior Portfolio Manager, Anthony Golowenko in his latest article. https://lnkd.in/gkPBQUZS For more news and insights from our team visit MLC AM – https://lnkd.in/gTB_RvTn and Investment Central – https://lnkd.in/gjnCbN4Q. The US election is looking like a close call and investors will need to be mindful of the the policies and promises of both Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. In this special update our Senior Economist, Bob Cunneen, provides 'A guide for the perplexed', detailing the major economic policy differences between the two candidates. He goes on to explain that while US elections have "a history of dramatic twists and turns" political events "often prove to be just noise rather than the compelling signal that requires a response" by investors. https://lnkd.in/ewBmYy5C #economicpolicy #investing #uselection

Investors have been drawn to emerging markets for the last twenty years, lured by phenomenal growth rates in China and elsewhere, but there has been a more disappointing run over the last decade. Investment Magazine spoke to Ben McCaw, our Co-Head of the Choice Diversified Portfolios, who said emerging markets can still act as a useful diversifier in growth portfolios because their “economies are at a different stage” of the economic cycle and there are “different drivers of growth” and different sector composition, and valuations are pretty cheap at the moment. But he cautioned that emerging markets’ growth would be inhibited if geopolitical frictions develop between China and the West.
