MMG’s Rosebery Mine threw its support behind the Vinnies CEO Sleepout at Burnie in Tasmania. The event, organised by Not-For-Profit Family Based Care Tasmania, raised $6,000 to help break the cycle of homelessness. The money raised will go directly to the local Vinnies organisation. MMG was represented by Rosebery Mine General Manager Steve Scott, Manager Environment, Community and Closure, Adam Pandelis and Community Liaison Coordinator, Chris Winskill. MMG Kinsevere recently hosted a comprehensive three-day training session for 20 delegates and nine permanent members of its inter-union committee. This initiative aimed to immerse new union delegates in their roles and responsibilities, ensuring they are well-equipped to advocate for workers' rights and interests. At the conclusion of the training, each delegate was awarded a certificate of completion, personally handed out by Charles Kyona, Kinsevere’s Secretary General. He highlighted the importance of a well-functioning inter-union committee as a testament to a healthy society. This training marks a significant step towards enhancing the capabilities of union delegates, ensuring they are well-prepared to advocate for workers' rights and contribute to the overall well-being of the workforce in RDC. ----- MMG Kinsevere a récemment organisé une session de formation complète de trois jours pour 20 délégués et neuf membres permanents de son comité intersyndical. Cette initiative visait à familiariser les nouveaux délégués syndicaux avec leur rôle et leurs responsabilités, afin qu'ils soient bien équipés pour défendre les droits et les intérêts des travailleurs. À l'issue de la formation, chaque délégué a reçu un certificat d'achèvement, remis personnellement par Charles Kyona, secrétaire général de Kinsevere. Il a souligné l'importance d'un comité intersyndical qui fonctionne correctement, car c'est le témoignage d'une société saine. Meet Jacqueline Pennicott from the Commercial/Tax team in the Melbourne office, and joint winner of the “We work together/We respect each other” values award in MMG’s Quarterly Working Together, Global Recognition Program.     Jacqueline and her teammate were recognised for their work with the Australian Taxation Office.  Over a six-month period, they managed requests diligently and met all the required deadlines.   “I am very fortunate to be working at MMG. This year, Las Bambas is celebrating two anniversaries: 20 years since it began operations in 2004 and 10 years since MMG took over management of the operations in 2014.    Over the past decade, Las Bambas has become one of Peru's largest copper mines and ranks tenth globally. Since starting commercial operations, the mine has produced over 2.7 million metric tonnes of copper concentrate.  Las Bambas creates over 9,200 direct and indirect jobs, significantly boosting regional economic development.  In 2023, the company invested more than USD 29 million in social initiatives, focusing on key areas such as education, healthcare, and local business growth.  Congratulations to the Las Bambas team on this milestone achievement.    #wemineforprogress #ourpeople #mining #LasBambas #Peru

We recently welcomed special guest Rohitesh (Ro) Dhawan, ICMM’s President and CEO in the Melbourne office. Ro took some time to update our team on the key priorities of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) including what they are doing to strengthen the social and environmental performance of the mining and metals industry. Ro was also joined by Danielle Martin, Co-Chief Operating Officer and Director of Social Performance, ICMM. Established in 2001, ICMM brings together 28 of the world’s largest mining and metals companies as well as 35 national and regional mining associations and global commodity associations. MMG has been a member since 2009 and adheres to ICMM’s Mining Principles, which incorporate comprehensive environmental, social and governance requirements, robust site-level validation of performance expectations and credible assurance of corporate sustainability reports with annual disclosure.
