Some people wear it on their sleeve, some bury it deep inside. However you carry it, it is there. That thing. That thing you care deeply about. It feeds your soul, and you nurture it in turn. How can you start to create a better future with what you care about at the centre? Are you learning how to identify and solve problems to enact change, or is your education missing a heart beat? In this gallery we ask you what matters most to you. What do you care for? What do you feel is within your capability to protect to make the world a better place? Once you work out what matters, use this knowledge to contribute to a landscape of other visitors’ contributions. This is a space to reflect on the varying passions each person has, and how by each caring for a cause we can create a web of change for a better future.

Last week, I was honoured to present at the ASTEN (Australasian Science and Technology Engagement Network) conference at Melbourne Museum. My presentation focused on how museums and cultural institutions can attract global and interstate tourists by developing strategic marketing initiatives, creating immersive and accessible exhibitions and showcasing local narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. A special thanks to ASTEN for hosting an insightful and inspiring conference. In related news, I’m thrilled to share that the MOD. has been named a finalist in the 2024 Tourism Industry Council SA (TiCSA) South Australian Tourism Awards, recognised in both the Tourist Attraction and Excellence in Accessible Tourism categories.

Doing my part to infect young people with a love for science.

I've just finished a wonderfully exciting week showcasing the Museum of Health Futures exhibition at the Regional Committee Meeting for the World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Regional Office #RCM75 in Manila, Philippines. The exhibition was developed over six-months with staff and partners of the World Health Organization WPRO on World Health Day. We paired 15 artefacts from the past 75 years, with 15 speculative artefacts representing possible futures from the next 75 years. You can read about the background scenarios, past artefacts, speculative futures artefacts, and engagement activities here: https://lnkd.in/gFTN_95f Check out some of the most engaging artefacts (and some of my favourites) such as the Prosthetic Uterus, Eco-Diamond Health Monitors and of course, the full-functioning, climate-ready BubbleTuk! I'd like to thank the team at the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office Strategic Dialogue Unit (DIA), especially Fanette Brandalac, Roberta Pesce, Jisook Bae, and Jennifer Eleccion in the Data, Strategy and Innovation Division (DSI) led by Kidong Park, and my colleagues at MOD. - Brooke Ferguson, Aaron Davis, Kristin Alford at the University of South Australia. I also want to thank Lycan Motorcycles Inc for their hard work creating the beautiful BubbleTuk in an incredibly short amount of time. #healthforall #museums #bubbletuk

Futures-Oriented Museums | Strategic Foresight | Digital & Emerging Technologies | Social Change

An incredibly engaging week with the Museum of Health Futures at #RCM75. The Museum of Health Futures is an exhibition informed by a six-month futures-thinking process that began with staff and partners of World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Regional Office on World Health Day. We paired 15 artefacts from the past 75 years, with 15 speculative artefacts representing plausible and possible futures from the next 75 years. The first outing for the museum was as part of a series of exhibitions for #RCM75. Some of my favourite futures artefacts, and the ones that provoked the most conversation, include the Prosthetic Uterus, Personalised Food Prescriptions, the Constriction Hygiene Unit (CHU), the Nutritional Scanning System Scanner for detecting food pollutants, the Eco-Diamond Health Monitor and of course, the climate-ready and fully functional BubbleTuk. You can read all about the background scenarios, the past artefacts, the speculative futures artefacts and stories of use, as well as our engagement activities in the Reflection Guide published by WHO WPRO here: https://lnkd.in/ghgxh86i The Museum of Health Futures methodology and exhibition was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Regional Office Strategic Dialogue Unit (DIA) team of Fanette Brandalac Roberta Pesce Jisook Bae and Jennifer Eleccion in the Data, Strategy and Innovation Division (DSI) led by Kidong Park, in collaboration with MOD. team of Dylan DeLosAngeles Brooke Ferguson Aaron Davis and myself at the University of South Australia. #RCM75 is the Regional Committee Meeting for the World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Regional Office. #healthforall #climateaction #futures #experientialfutures #museums

Wonderful to have my article included in the October-December issue of the UNESCO Courier. Published in English, French, Spanish, and Russian, this issue is dedicated to the reimagining of the museum. In my article ‘Welcome to the world of tomorrow’ I discuss the great work Kristin Alford and her team at the Australian Museum of Discovery (MOD.) in Adelaide are doing to engage 15-25 year olds in conversations about the future. To engage a population that has been confronted with climate, demographic and environmental crises since childhood, museums must also provide answers to the questions they are asking.  Thanks for the opportunity to participate in the issue Agnès Bardon. #futuremuseums #museumparticipation

What would have to change to radically improve the way we make decisions? Could we give personhood to non-human animals? What about giving trees a vote? In this gallery, we look at how we might listen to the perspectives of trees on our democratic decision-making. While plants may not have voices, changes in tree canopy coverage can indicate a tree’s level of well-being. Come in and meet The Assembly of Trees, 23 representatives of plants across greater Adelaide. Browse through bills and consider how they might be responding to changes we make. Do they approve?

Field Trip to Yundi: A Journey of Nature, Culture, and Connection This October, MOD. hosted a Nature Festival event alongside John Fargher and Mark Koolmatrie (Kool Tours) at Yundi Nature Conservancy. A group consisting of children and grandparents, locals, visitors and newly arrived residents, professors and students, vegetation experts and complete beginners joined us for the fieldtrip. Together we spent the day in the Yundi swamplands, learning, playing and caring for nature and culture. This field trip, supported by SA Water’s Reconciliation Partnerships Program, and was an experience of learning, connection, and action. The collaboration between Aboriginal values and scientific practice at Yundi is a powerful reminder that the future of our ecosystems (and perhaps over areas of life) are enhanced by both. You can read about the full trip here: https://lnkd.in/g-BnTX_9
