Next week (14th November) at Monash University Clayton Campus, #AIMday returns, bringing together industry leaders and researchers to address key energy challenges. Hosted in partnership with RACE for 2030 CRC, this event offers networking, insights, and potential for co-funded projects through one-hour facilitated sessions and focused discussions. Confirmed participants include Jemena, Opturion, Powercor, Veritas Technologies LLC, and WattsUp, with more to come. For details and to register, visit https://lnkd.in/gmnpEUjd Let’s drive the future of energy through maths and AI. Don’t miss it! Markus Wagner Sarah Goodwin Samantha Lipscombe Shreejan P. Emi Gui Larisa Teterevkova Rhian Adlam
[[[ this goes out to all Monash University staff ]]] Dear Colleagues, Next week, on November 14th, we will hold another AIMday event at Clayton Campus, located on the ground floor of 9 Rainforest Walk. The final program to be posted online next week. You are welcome to attend the entire event or join any session that fits your schedule. For more information about AIMday, visit https://lnkd.in/gaEfav3s Please register at https://lnkd.in/gW4NWWRq and indicate the projects you’d like to engage with. A list of questions can be found at https://lnkd.in/ggCtg8a5 (confirmed to date are Jemena, Opturion, Powercor, Veritas, and Wattsup, with more being discussed) Additional topics will be added shortly, so please continue to check the website for updates even after registering. Should you wish to adjust your preferences, don’t hesitate to contact Andrea at andrea.collevecchio@monash.edu At the June edition, we had 11 companies join our ~80 scientists to discuss 15 energy-related challenges via a number of one-hour long, facilitated conversations. For some of the impressions, feel free to check out https://lnkd.in/gH7dkQRK. What’s new on 14 November? We've partnered with the RACE for 2030 CRC (https://lnkd.in/gm8ybDeg) to enhance the impact of this event. This collaboration opens up exciting possibilities: * Refined Topics: We'll work closely with RACE to focus on the most pressing industry challenges. * Potential Co-Funded Projects: Your participation could lead to RACE co-funded initiatives. * Tailored Discussions: We will keep the one-hour facilitated conversations, but now possibly have room for 1:1 chats. Why You Should Attend 1. Networking: Connect with industry leaders and innovators. 2. Insight: Gain fresh perspectives on applying maths and AI to energy challenges. 3. Collaboration: Explore potential partnerships and project opportunities. We're looking forward to your participation in shaping the future of energy through maths and AI. Let's make this AIMday the most impactful yet! Best regards, Markus, on behalf of the team [[[ this goes out to all Monash University staff, including, but not limited to, Monash Information Technology, Monash Energy Institute , Monash Energy Club, Monash Data Futures Institute, Monash Science , Monash Business School, ... ]]]

🌍 The Role of Gas in a Sustainable Energy Future 🌍 In a recent article, Associate Professor Roger Dargaville explores why gas will likely remain part of the electricity mix for the foreseeable future. While renewable energy sources are crucial for reducing emissions, gas continues to play a unique role by providing stability and flexibility that other technologies currently struggle to match cost-effectively and with minimal environmental impact. 🔋 How do you see gas fitting into the energy transition over the next decade? #EnergyTransition #SustainableEnergy #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergyFuture #GasInEnergyMix #EnergyInnovation #ClimateAction #FutureOfEnergy #EnergyStability #EnvironmentalImpact Shreejan P. Samantha Lipscombe Rhian Adlam Emi Gui Larisa Teterevkova
Penned this little opinion piece on the role of gas in the electricity sector. You might not like it, but gas will probably be part of the electricity mix for a while as it provides services that other generation technologies will struggle to do cost effectively and with minimal environmental impact.
Yes, burning gas is bad for the climate. But keeping it in Australia’s energy mix is sensible

Imagine office buildings that intelligently adapt to the climate, minimising energy consumption and carbon emissions. That's the goal of our recently completed project, "AI-ready flexible buildings to minimise carbon intensity." Heating and cooling account for up to 40% of an office building's annual energy use. Our project leverages AI to optimise building performance, effectively turning the building into a "thermal battery." This innovative approach allows for smarter pre-cooling and pre-heating decisions, leading to significant reductions in carbon intensity and operating costs. The main output of this project is a simulated model of an optimised office building. This model can be used to guide the design and operation of future buildings, paving the way for a more sustainable future. We would like to thank Monash University and Buildings Alive for working with us on this project.
