Thanks to the Social Enterprise Growth Grant from the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, the Monte Lupo Arts Studio in Eight Mile Plains was able to purchase a RAM Press. This new equipment has significantly enhanced the studio’s operations, enabling the supported employees to craft a variety of ceramic pieces, including their popular planter pots and butterfly feeders. Fiona Haynes, General Manager of Creative Arts, highlighted the positive impact of the RAM Press on the supported employee artists. “The RAM Press has been a game-changer for us. Our employees no longer need a separate potter to create ceramics; they can now handle the entire production process themselves. This advancement has greatly increased their independence and skill development,” she explained. Supported employee Myles, who has been part of Monte Lupo for four years, praised the RAM Press for its effectiveness. “It’s a fantastic tool—very safe and user-friendly with built-in sensors for added protection. It has allowed us to work much more efficiently,” he said. Myles plays a crucial role in painting the ceramics and mosaics, and he appreciates how the RAM Press has streamlined the studio’s workflow. Our Multicap team from Melbourne, in collaboration with DEC Housing, are proud to announce a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering people with disabilities to co-design their ideal living spaces. This initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring that people with disabilities have a meaningful voice in the creation of homes that cater to their unique needs and preferences. Multicap’s General Manager Victoria Peta Fensham-Cobb brings a wealth of expertise in disability services, offering people the opportunity to co-create their Supportive Independent Living (SIL) support teams. “Our team would work to match the person to the location they want to live in to best meet their needs then customise the home following extensive consultation, ensuring that the design supports aging in place with the assurance of lifetime tenancy,” she said. Anyone interested in exploring this opportunity are encouraged to contact our friendly team on 1300 135 886 to learn more about how they can be involved in designing their future homes and support services. 🌟 Today is World Sight Day and we are meeting the amazing Larissa from Makeables 🌟 At just 19, Larissa’s life took a dramatic turn while working she suddenly lost her vision and was diagnosed with optic neuritis and began her journey with multiple sclerosis. Though her vision returned temporarily, it gradually worsened, leaving her legally blind. Despite these challenges, Larissa shows incredible strength and resilience. Larissa has spent her life working and being a mother to her two beautiful daughters however has her vision diminished she found finding stable employment harder and harder. A chance encounter at the bank led her to find employment at Makeables, where she thrived in the production team. From there she was supported to advance her career and become a Job Coach. “The social aspects of the job are what I enjoy most—making friends and supporting connections,” she shares. Larissa’s story is one of empowerment and determination. She treasures her time with family and loves caring for her young granddaughter. World Sight Day is observed annually on October 10 to raise awareness about eye health, particularly among younger individuals, and to combat the stigma surrounding vision loss and the use of vision aids.
