About us
NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) provides simple, reliable, and comparable sustainability measurement across building sectors like hotels, shopping centres, apartments, offices, data centres, and more. We use a simple six-star scale that helps the market to overcome information barriers to invest in energy efficiency, water efficiency, waste reduction and indoor environment improvements. The NABERS program is delivered by industry to commercial property owners and is administered by government. By creating high quality rating tools and working with partners to promote target setting, we aim to stimulate the market for environmental retrofits and drive competition between building owners and managers for better performance. We'll use this page to keep you up to date with the latest NABERS news, as well as to highlight other interesting posts that are relevant to our program.

Powering retail sustainability: NABERS launches Retail Stores energy ratings We’re excited to announce the launch of the new NABERS Energy tool for retail stores, helping businesses across Australia’s shopping centres, precincts, and high streets measure and improve their environmental performance. Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Josh Wilson, visited Officeworks in Sydney to mark the launch, meeting with Fiona Lawrie, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Officeworks, along with members of the NABERS team. Together they discussed how the new NABERS tool will empower retailers to optimise energy use, reduce costs, and enhance environmental performance. With this tool, individual retailers can now achieve a 1 to 6-star rating, optimising energy use across lighting, ventilation, and air conditioning. The goal? Lower power bills, enhanced energy performance, and reduced emissions. “A NABERS rating will help retailers bring down power bills and get better energy performance in their stores, while enabling them to do their bit to lower emissions,” Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Josh Wilson said. With more than 5,000 buildings already benefitting from NABERS ratings across sectors like offices, data centres, and hotels, we’re excited to see how the retail sector takes up this opportunity to build a greener future. ➡️Read the media release from The Hon Josh Wilson MP: https://lnkd.in/gAnAfBge ➡️Learn more about how this rating can unlock energy savings and environmental credentials for retailers: https://lnkd.in/gWw9FVTa Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, James Elks, Monique Alfris, Suruchi Pathak
