Don’t stop at BRAF V600E.. When DNA sequencing for BRAF/MAP2K1/KRAS/NRAS mutations is negative in the workup of #histiocytoses.. start thinking about gene fusions (actually preferable to start thinking about fusions from the start!)... Below is a KIF5B::ALK fusion from targeted RNA-sequencing making a diagnosis of this entity - https://lnkd.in/g6sKjqEP Clinicopathological features of this rare disease (ALK-positive histiocytosis) - Presentation any time from infant to adult - Can be single system (most often CNS) or multisystem involvement (CNS, bone, lungs..) - Bone lesions can look like Erdheim-Chester disease - Beware – ALK IHC may show dot-like positivity that may be interpreted as negative.. - Almost always ALKex20 fused to KIF5Bex24 MOST IMPORTANTLY.. like almost all histiocytoses… targeted inhibition of molecular driver is remarkably effective and the therapy of choice. Multiple ALK inhibitors have been used in this entity (#crizotinib, #alectinib, #lorlatinib, #brigatinib, #ceritinib..) - 100% response rate (!) in the above linked work. #WilsonCentreforBloodCancerGenomics #PrecisionDiagnostics #AllHaemRNA #FusionPanels #hemepath #NGS

After an enriching journey across Europe, our Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Nexomics Business Development Teams are now homeward bound, brimming with insights and inspiration. Paris and Barcelona treated us to a whirlwind of innovation and partnership opportunities. With our Global Victoria delegation, we delved into the bustling streets of Paris for this year’s BIO-EUROPE SPRING Victorian Trade Mission, and it surpassed all expectations! Our mission was clear: to amplify Victoria’s vibrant life sciences and biotechnology industry while forging stronger bonds between France and Australia. Immersed in the thriving Parisian innovation ecosystem, we explored a multitude of avenues for growth and partnership. Our European escapade unfolded like a mesmerising symphony... From the historic charm of Hôtel-Dieu de France to the innovation hub of BioLabs France, each stop enriched our understanding of the French healthcare landscape. At Genopole, we witnessed firsthand the intersection of research and commercialisation, while Paris-Saclay unveiled the dynamic spirit of technological innovation. France's biotech industry emerged as a garden of possibilities, meticulously nurtured to yield both patient-centric and commercial successes. Onward to Barcelona, BIO-EUROPE Spring, where our teams engaged and connected with the European Biopharma community exploring opportunities for partnership. _ As we bid adieu to Europe, we are filled with gratitude and appreciation for the enriching experiences & promising partnerships forged along the way. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the masterminds behind this mission—Gönül Serbest, Stuart Bland, Anne Hiag, Léonore Marteville, Anne-Sophie Boulet, and Amanda Caples—for their unwavering support throughout.
