  • Exciting news for the Northern Territory and the global energy transition! ASX-listed Arafura Rare Earths Ltd (Arafura) is making significant strides in developing one of the world's largest undeveloped Neodymium and Praseodymium (NdPr) resources at the Nolans Project. Located just 130km north of Alice Springs, Nolans will be Australia’s first integrated rare earths mine and processing facility. These critical minerals are essential for permanent magnets used in electric vehicles, wind turbines, robotics, and consumer electronics, all key components driving the shift to cleaner, greener energy solutions. The NT Government welcomes the Commonwealth Government’s $200 million investment commitment through the National Reconstruction Fund Corporation, ensuring the Nolans Project plays a central role in supporting the global energy transition. The long-term benefits for the Northern Territory and the Alice Springs region are immense: the 38+ year mine life will deliver economic and social benefits, including 600 construction jobs and 350+ operational jobs. The Nolans Project is projected to meet ~4% of the global demand for NdPr and will be a transformational project of national significance.

CDU's researchers and students will work more closely and consistently with the Australian Defence Force (Defence Australia) in areas including drone trials, heat stress research and vocational training. The deeper collaboration is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) we've signed with the ADF, serving as a formal statement of intent for enduring cooperation between our two organisations. We've also formed a working group to manage activities, and a senior leaders' steering group to drive cooperation. This will create more opportunities for our researchers and students, and a stronger CDU and ADF. Our thanks to Brigadier Douglas Pashley, Commander 1 Brigade; Group Captain Jim Collisson, Director Regional Air Domain Posture – North; Lieutenant Colonel Adrian Walker, Chief of Staff to Commander 1 Brigade; and Commanders Chelsea Livingstone and Johnathon Jerrett, Executive Officers HMAS Coonawarra, for joining us at our Casuarina Campus.
