About us

Our vision is a healthy, vibrant future for all those affected by ovarian cancer, a goal that we are achieving through raising funds, promoting greater awareness, advocacy, and, crucially, investing in high-potential research. The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) is Australia's leading independent funder of ovarian cancer research. We fund the country's most innovative research projects that will help us better detect, treat and prevent ovarian cancer until one day, the five-year average survival rate sits well above 49%.

Being able to host this incredible forum where we bring together the best global scientific ovarian cancer researchers is an absolute honour. These are the scientists who will provide the breakthroughs we need to better prevent and treat ovarian cancer over the next decade and their energy, knowledge and willingness to collaborate was genuinely inspiring. Thank you as well to Leszek Borysiewicz for some powerful observations and insights. I personally loved the opportunity to share this occasion with some of the top global research charities (Ovarian Cancer Canada Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) and the chance to work with likeminded CEOs and their talented teams was very powerful. Tania Vrionis Audra Moran and Robin Penty you are the best. I can’t lie, it was an exhausting week, but also exhilarating and I came away ready and willing to do much more as long as I have the incredible Marie-Claire Platt and Faye Boswell and the rest of our brilliant team by my side

The 15th Helene Harris Memorial Trust Global Scientific Forum on Ovarian Cancer (HHMT) is over! For four days we hosted some of the brightest minds in ovarian cancer research from across the world. It was a privilege to bring together such a rich, diverse and innovative group of researchers and clinicians to discuss how to significantly improve survival of ovarian cancer.    The scientific programme covered the cutting edge of research from prevention and early detection, to understanding the disease, developing new treatments and creating new strategies for treatment resistance. We were honoured to invite Sir Leszek Borysiewicz to mobilise and challenge these scientists to transform exciting research breakthroughs into real world impact for women with ovarian cancer, sharing insights and expertise from his distinguished career.   The first HHMT in 1986 led to the creation of Ovarian Cancer Action in 2005 and we could not be more proud of these roots. Global scientific cooperation on this scale is inspiring.   A sincere thanks to everyone that attended, spoke and curated the event. And a heartfelt thank you to the patients from around the world who shared their experiences to ensure delivering impact for patients was at the heart of the scientific discussions.   Together we can make ovarian cancer into a survivable disease.

Chief Executive Officer, Ovarian Cancer Canada

Last Spring, I was thrilled to be a part of early discussions initiated by Cary Wakefield of Ovarian Cancer Action (UK) exploring the potential for international collaboration amongst some of the world’s leading charities focused on funding ovarian cancer research. In that conversation, we imagined with excitement all that might be possible if we came together with a shared vision of accelerating progress through partnership and collaboration. Last week in Surrey, UK, we did more than imagine. . . we made it happen. Gathering with 40+ of the world’s leading researchers and clinicians as part of the HHMT International Forum on Ovarian Cancer, the CEO’s and Research leads of Ovarian Cancer Canada, Ovarian Cancer Action, Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF), and Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance spent four jam-packed days exploring the possible and we can’t wait to see where it takes us together. This is only the beginning. What incredible company it was to be in with Audra Moran, Robin Penty and Cary Wakefield. I am so proud to be part of this powerhouse CEO group who all believe in the impact we can have by working together. Now back in Canada, reflecting on our conversations and inspired by the remarkable global research community and the brilliance of our team members Alicia Tone, PhD , Amy Wilson Faye Boswell and Marie-Claire Platt, I am more confident than ever that together, we will accelerate progress and change the future for women facing ovarian cancer.

  • In an op-ed with Fashion Journal, OCRF ambassador Jemima pens her ovarian cancer story and the impact of a shock diagnosis at just five years of age. Unlike many patients who experience the vague symptoms of ovarian cancer, Jemima's symptoms at such a young age could not be passed off as menopause or menstrual-related. Her story highlights the common misconception that ovarian cancer only impacts women above 50 years of age, when in fact it can impact anyone with ovaries. Now more than fifteen years on, treatment options have barely improved and there still is no accessible, non-invasive early detection test for ovarian cancer. Jemima continues to be a passionate and dedicated advocate and ambassador for the OCRF, hosting her annual Frocktober fundraising ball in her home town of Adelaide. Funds raised throughout Frocktober support ovarian cancer research projects across early detection, prevention, treatment and recurrence, all working to change the outcomes for women, girls and their families impacted by this disease. This October, we're blending science, style, and social impact in support of Frocktober - a campaign that raises awareness and funds for ovarian cancer research. In the lead up to our Frocktober event in a few weeks, we’re taking the iconic lab coat and transforming it into a fashion statement and a powerful symbol of advocacy for ovarian cancer awareness. With the current five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer at just 49%, it remains the most lethal gynaecological cancer. Funding vital medical research into early detection, prevention, and treatment is the only way to improve outcomes for women, girls, and their families everywhere. Let’s make science a little more vibrant and impactful this Frocktober, and together, drive change for ovarian cancer awareness and research! #Frocktober #OvarianCancerAwareness

🎥 Behind the Scenes: This week, the Mother's Day Classic team had the privilege of touring the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, guided by Dr. Kathleen Pishas. Dr. Kathleen gave us a firsthand look into the groundbreaking research happening right here in Australia, focusing on ovarian cancer treatment—a crucial area funded by the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF). It's moments like these that remind us why we walk, run, and fundraise each year. We are so grateful for the work being done at Peter Mac and for researchers like Kathleen, who are turning hope into real-world breakthroughs.

Steward Wealth proudly supports Frocktober, an initiative by the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF), raising awareness and funds for critical research into ovarian cancer. Why is this important? • The current five-year survival rate for ovarian cancer is just 49%, making it the 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫. Funding vital research in early detection, prevention, and treatment is the only way to improve outcomes for women, girls, and their families everywhere. • Five new cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed daily in Australia. We lose more than 1,000 women and girls to this disease each year—equivalent to 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬. • There is 𝐧𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞. • The majority of patients are diagnosed in advanced stages, where five-year survival rates drop to just 29%. Research is essential to improving these outcomes. Together, we can make a difference. Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to a future free from ovarian cancer. With so many ways you can get involved, from buying a t-shirt, fundraising or making a donation visit: https://lnkd.in/gJXzN49S to see how you can support. #Frocktober2024 #FrockOvarianCancer #OCRF #CancerAwareness #FrockerFella

    CEO, Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation

Greetings from the UK! This week I had the absolute privilege of representing the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) whilst attending the Helene Harris Memorial Trust International Forum on Ovarian Cancer (HHMT), hosted by the incredible Ovarian Cancer Action team. Every four years, many of the world’s best and brightest minds in ovarian cancer research gather at HHMT, to share findings and discuss the latest insights and discoveries in the field. For the first time ever, the CEOs of all four global charities – Ovarian Cancer Action (UK), Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (USA), Ovarian Cancer Canada (CAN) and Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) (AUS) – co-sponsored the forum and held our own leadership meeting, to develop a shared understanding about potential priorities for future funding and collaborative impact. As a group, we are impatient and ambitious for progress against this insidious disease, and we want the global research community to keep asking the bold questions on behalf of our community of patients, survivors and supporters. It was a true honour for the CEOs to sit down over a private lunch with esteemed immunologist Leszek Borysiewicz as well. Sir Borys is the most recent chair of Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and former chief executive of the Medical Research Council/ UK Research and Innovation. Sir Borys' work included Europe's first trial of a vaccine for HPV to treat cervical cancer, and he shared his galvanising insights with great energy. It was fantastic! Thank you for your verve and wisdom, Leszek Borysiewicz! Sir Borys put a ‘grand challenge’ to the research community at our dinner, and the animated discussion afterward demonstrated his provocation made a mark. As a partner, the OCRF provided development support and sponsored two respected Australian scientists to attend the forum (three, when we include Amy Wilson PhD :). Sincere thanks to the CEOs group - Cary Wakefield, Tania Vrionis, Audra Moran – for your spirit of collaboration and trust over the time we spent together. It was a gift to learn from one another and envision a brighter future – and our #Frocktober pic (below) is simply the best! To the research teams - Marie-Claire Platt, Alicia Tone, PhD, Faye Boswell, Amy Wilson – you were brilliant thinkers all week long, documenting the meeting, reflecting on each talk, coordinating and connecting the dots from a mountain of insights each day. Thank you for everything! And last but by no means least, thank you to the medical research community for your commitment to excellence, dogged persistence, clinical care, robust dialogue, collegiality and innovation, all in aid of better detection, treatment and prevention of this complex disease. It was inspiring to meet you and be part of it! We can't wait to see what you do next.
