We are over the moon to announce that the Carbon Accounting Alliance has grown 981% in our first 6 months since launching! We started with 37 Founding Members in 8 countries, which has organically rocketed to 400+ Members in 44 countries almost purely through word-of-mouth. Collectively the community measures carbon footprints for 80,000+ organisations worldwide! In this time, we've made some exciting progress: 📖 Beta launch of a ‘Wikipedia for Carbon Accounting’ 📖 This aims to promote technical alignment in the industry by tackling all of the grey areas and interpretations of the guidance, as well as publishing relevant output from working groups and FAQs on our community forum. Shoutout to Kevin Cornwell leading this workstream! 📜Developing Professional Qualifications for Carbon Accountants📜 We are well underway with defining a syllabus for the first carbon accounting professional qualification in partnership with leading industry bodies. These are just a few messages which have resonated far and wide in the carbon accounting industry over the last 6 months with members joining us from South Korea to South Africa. Celebrating 6 Months of Impact In just 6 months, Carbon Accounting Alliance has signed up over 400 organizations, measured over one billion tonnes of CO2e, and achieved a reduction of 29+ million tonnes. Accurate measurement is the first step to meaningful progress. The Carbon Accounting Alliance (CAA), in collaboration with Peercarbon and over 400 other partners, empowers businesses to measure their carbon footprint accurately. Our CEO Raymond Maiyo, who also serves as the African Chair for CAA, is dedicated to driving impactful change across the continent. African organizations are welcome to join CAA to steer the future of carbon accounting and reduction efforts in Africa. It’s been 4 months now since we publicly launched the Carbon Accounting Alliance and what a ride it’s been! From an initial founding membership of 37 organisations, in less than 4 months we have grown to over 310 company members (with over 550 individuals), headquartered in 37 countries from South Korea to South Africa, which in turn have collectively measured over 70,000 company footprints and over 1 billion in tCO2e. To put this in perspective, this is three times more than the c. 23,000 organisations who disclosed their emissions via CDP in 2024. Some of our key learnings so far: #1 We cannot compete on methodology Solution providers should compete on price, software features, excel wizardry and advisory services but we cannot be building proprietary accounting methodologies. These need to be shared transparently and worked on collaboratively. This applies to in-house/internal carbon accountants too of course and it’s encouraging to see this mantra being adopted by our members at scale. #2 We can all learn from each other No matter how big or established you are as a practitioner there will always be areas in which the interpretation of the guidance is complicated or where guidance is simply missing. We can all learn from each other and it’s important that we do it together. Our members seem to agree! #3 There is a need for convening and summarisation No one has enough time or money to be on top of everything!  From evolving legislation to new guidance from standards bodies, or the multiple of industry or topic-specific groups, simplifying the most important topics and enabling shared learning is needed. We believe it is one of the most impactful things we can do as an alliance, all in a safe space under Chatham House rule. It has been a while since we gave an update, but the incredible growth of our community continues! We launched 3 months ago at the end of November 2023 with 37 Founding Members. As of today we have 260+ Members, headquartered in 30+ countries, who collectively measure 55,000+ company carbon footprints! We have begun the early stages of measuring impact within our community too, and with only 29 #CAA Members reporting back so far, we know that our community has measured more than 1+ Billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) and more than 29 million tCO2e of direct emission reductions (not offsets). Amazing! Most recently we have launched a community platform bringing our Members together into a safe space to discuss, debate and align on the technical delivery of carbon footprinting, interpretation of standards and policy. Working Groups are being established on a wide range of topics, including: 📌 Advertising Emissions 📌 Carbon Offsetting & Neutrality 📌 Events & Cultural Spaces 📌 Finance & Investment 📌 FLAG Emissions 📌 Product Carbon Footprinting 📌 Professionalisation & Training 📌 Regulatory Monitoring 📌 Software Interoperability Regional Branches are also being set up, including: 🌍 Africa 🌍 Asia 🌍 Europe 🌍 Latin America 🌍 Middle East 🌍 North America 🌍 Oceania 🌍 United Kingdom It is truly incredible to see so many carbon accounting professionals coming together to collaborate and advance best practice!

And the rapid week-1 growth of the Carbon Accounting Alliance continues! As of right now we have 126 Members, measuring somewhere between 44,000 - 55,000 company carbon footprints (we ask for a range when people sign up). In other news, our Founders Andrew Griffiths and Emilien Hoet have achieved a personal career highlight when the CAA was referred to as "founded by a couple of Climate Wonks" by a US media outlet who actually said very nice things in their news story about the launch of the Alliance. They are indeed #WonkyForClimate #ClimateWonks = The latest critical terminology in the carbon lexicon. For those curious souls who wonder why the "carbon measured / reduced" figures haven't increased in the image - we don't have those questions on the initial sign-up form as they are often quite tricky for people to pull together. We will be sending out that survey to all the newbies next week... Huge gratitude for everyone who is supporting behind the scenes and all those jumping on board so energetically! 48 hours in, and the #CarbonAccountingAlliance has TRIPLED in size with organisations joining from dozens of countries... We have been genuinely blown away by the energy and enthusiasm we're seeing for this initiative.
