Today is International Day of the Girl! This year’s theme is: Girls’ vision for the future 💛 Did you know that over 1 in 4 women have experienced FDV since the age of 15? FDV is a driver of gender inequality. Women and girls experiencing and escaping FDV often suffer long lasting impacts to their financial, physical and mental health and wellbeing. Our vision for Girls’ futures is to see our communities free from Family and Domestic Violence. In case you missed our post on Saturday, it’s WA Mental Health Week! We’re encouraging social connection at our Refuges with our recently purchased sporting equipment, fidget toys, messy play equipment and other toys for our Refuge children to play with during their stay, whilst escaping FDV. Thank you Lotterywest and Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) for generously funding the purchase of the equipment, which can help to improve the mental health outcomes of children living in Refuge. Our Child Advocates are so excited to see the equipment in action, bringing smiles to so many faces! #mhw2024 #waamh #lotterywest #fdv #supportingwomenandchildren #refuge #thankyou #mentalhealth #improvedoutcomes #empoweringcommunities

Let’s take a look at another resource developed by our Modified Service Delivery's co-design group, the Journey Map. This resource outlines the steps they identified while experiencing family and domestic violence and seeking support. They want to remind everyone that finding safety isn’t always a straight path—it’s okay if it takes a few tries. You can also flip to the back of the document for more information presented in plain English, making it accessible to everyone. Want a copy? 👐 Email the project team at msd@pgcnv.org.au to get yours! 📨 #PatriciaGilesCentreforNonViolence #PGCNV #ModifiedServiceDelivery #JourneyMap #FDVSupport #SafetyJourney #CoDesign #Empowerment #Launch

We are so fortunate to have received a limited-edition coin to use for fundraising, from Perth Mint! The Quokka coin is valued at $140, and Perth Mint has very kindly donated it to us, so we can raise funds for women and children impacted by FDV at a future event. It is such a beautiful coin, and we’re looking forward to planning a fundraising event (hopefully soon), so we can find the coin a new home! Thank you, Gold Corporation - The Perth Mint 💛 #PerthMint #Perth #fundraising #donations #donationsmakeadifference #supportingwomenandchildren #FDV #livefreefromfdv #thankyouforyoursupport #thankyou

Recently, our Modified Service Delivery team hosted their monthly cross-sector collaboration meeting with representatives from the FDV and disability sectors! A huge thank you to Anthony Pyle from Mission Australia for presenting to the group about NDIS eligibility, funded supports and how LACs can support with making connections. The meeting was also a great opportunity to chat about specific cases and brainstorm practical solutions to better support those experiencing violence. Shout out to Mission Australia for hosting us, and a special thanks to Sevenoaks Foods for keeping us energised with a delicious morning tea (and for offering us a cheeky discount)!
