Managing three of the eleven sites that together form the UNESCO Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property.
About us
Port Arthur Historic Site is a special place of vivid history, cultural heritage and stories so compelling, you’ll want to hear them again and again. It’s a place of global significance – one of the 11 places that make up the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Australian Convict Sites. And it’s one of Australia’s favourite tourist destinations. Cascades Female Factory Historic Site aims to foster a greater understanding and appreciation for the largely untold story of female convicts sent to Australia. Cascades Female Factory Historic Site is the most significant site associated with female convicts in Australia, it is listed as one of the 11 sites that together form the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property, inscribed on the World Heritage list in 2010. The Coal Mines Historic Site is an outstanding example of the 19th-century European global strategy of using the forced labour of convicts. Illustrating the importance of labour and production, classification, punishment and surveillance in the penal system and the role of the convict in the establishment of colonial economies, the Coal Mines Historic Site is listed as one of the 11 sites that together form the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property, inscribed on the World Heritage list in 2010.

Very excited to announce a $16m funding boost in this week’s State Budget for PAHSMA. Asset management is a key part of how we are meeting our obligations as managers of three UNESCO Word Heritage Sites. The funding will be used to upgrade water and sewerage services for the Port Arthur historic site, and local businesses and residents on the Tasman Peninsula over the next two years. Thank you to our minister, Hon Madeleine Ogilvie MP and Treasurer Michael Ferguson in supporting this extraordinary funding. It will ensure we can meet seasonal capacity, support our local businesses and residents and take the right step towards handing over the delivery of these services to the experts at TasWater (our ultimate goal). #unescoworldhertiagesites #tourismmatters #heritagetasmania #australianconvictsites
