Clear skies and crystal waters at Castlewellan Forest Park, one of Northern Ireland’s heritage treasures… this St Patrick’s Day, we know where we’d rather be🍃 Located in County Down, where St Patrick himself spent much of his adult life, Castlewellan Historic Demesne is steeped in natural and built heritage dating back to the 1740s. Back in 2018, we awarded a £2.69million grant to NMD Business (Newry, Mourne and Down District Council), to help protect and rejuvenate Castlewellan Forest Park. Made possible by #NationalLottery players, the funding is helping to: 🌳 Restore the arboretum, home to one of the most significant collection of trees and shrubs on the island of Ireland. 🌳 Uncover how trees were planted throughout the park's history and celebrate its unique biodiversity. 🌳 Transform the Grange and courtyards at the heart of the park. 🌳 Create a new café and community centre, which once complete will provide opportunities for activities, events, environmental education and skills development. Happy #StPatricksDay! 📸 Ewa McBride

🌙 We’re almost halfway through #WomensHistoryMonth, making it the perfect time to shine a luminous beam of light on Mary Blagg, the woman who mapped the moon. 🌟 Born in 1858, Mary lived almost all her life in Cheadle, a market town in the Staffordshire Moorlands. She received a good education and, in the early 1900s, developed a keen interest in astronomy – eventually becoming a pioneer in the field. 🌕 Marking 80 years since Mary’s death, this time last year we awarded £24,693 of #NationalLottery funding to the Cheadle Moon project. Cheadle Discovery Group and OUTSIDE worked with local people to celebrate her life, work and contributions to science. Artist Luke Jerram created this breathtaking installation, titled Museum of the Moon, at St Giles the Abbott church where Mary is buried. 💫 Discover more about this remarkable woman’s story and the project that brought it to life: https://ow.ly/XGTW50Vhv9y #WomenInScience #ThanksToYou

We're excited to share the six projects shortlisted for Sustainable Project of the Year 2025! 🥁👇 🌱 Cutting carbon with car-free travel In 2024, National Trust ran a pilot project with Good Journey to explore how to encourage greener travel by enabling visitors to reach 34 of its properties car-free. It put on a summer bus to Wallington, an electric bike hire from Arnside station to Sizergh and a free drink for car-free visitors at many other properties. Is there a #NationalTrust property nearby that you could travel to car-free? 🚲 🌱 Breathing life back into an old coal yard The Railworld Wildlife Haven is a visitor attraction in Peterborough created by volunteers. Once a derelict coal yard, the land was purchased and donated by founder Rev Richard Paten and is now a much-loved community green space and a wildlife corridor along the River Nene. 🌱 Creating eco-friendly art The 'Greener Glass' exhibition at Stourbridge Glass Museum was co-curated by artists and University of Birmingham students. It explores environmental themes and showcases eco-friendly glass-making practices. 🌱 Building a new wildlife haven for all The Urban Nature Project transformed the Natural History Museum's gardens into a wildlife haven. As a 'living laboratory', the accessible green space will be studied and the research shared to connect people to nature on their doorstep. 🌱 Reviving green energy sources CROMFORD MILLS (The Arkwright Society) built in 1771 by Sir Richard Arkwright used three waterwheels to power its revolutionary cotton spinning machines. Now, the same green energy source that Arkwright once relied on is being used to provide energy and heat to the site. 🌱 Showing the impact of climate emergency The 'Waters Rising' exhibition at Perth Museum frames the global climate emergency through a local lens. It features a display of photos and memories from local people impacted by flooding and traces the history of climate activism in Scotland. Well done to every project on our shortlist! Up to two winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in London on 15 May. 💚 Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eYSnfxmc #EcoFriendly #GreenProjects #GreenHeritage #EcoArt #CutCarbon #SustainableProjectOfTheYear2025
