We brought International Women's Day to North Queensland yesterday, hosting our first ever IWD twilight event in Townsville! The exceptional Cathy McGuane was joined by local property stalwart Stephen Motti for an insightful conversation about Cathy's career journey and experiences as a trailblazer within industry. Cathy also highlighted the importance of diverse representation and visibility of women across the sector - particularly in leadership roles - and shared her hopes for the future of industry. A huge thanks to Cathy, Stephen, our Townsville Committee and all who attended for making the evening such a meaningful and inspiring success. We would also like to thank our sponsor Knight Frank Townsville for their generous support of this fantastic event.

The people within our industry have a unique opportunity to make an impact, whether that's within their businesses, the property sector more broadly or with the communities they shape. Michael Rayner from Blight Rayner Architecture won the Industry Impact Award at last year's People In Property Awards, celebrating his decades' long contribution to our industry and his pursuit of stronger, more vibrant communities through the major projects he has worked on. "I was over the moon to be awarded the Property Council of Australia's inaugural Industry Impact Award," Michael said. "I regard the People In Property Awards as valuable in recognising those who've made significant contributions to the property community, many unsung and quietly improving our industry's wellbeing." Nominations for this year's People In Property Awards close tomorrow. It is free to nominate, with more information about categories and the nomination process here: https://lnkd.in/gS9SMkWh Thanks to The University of Queensland for sponsoring the Industry Impact Award and to nbn® Australia for making the 2025 People In Property Awards possible.

Changes to Brisbane City Council's City Plan, through the Inner-City Affordability Initiative, have come into force today. The changes reduce car parking requirements for new residential projects by extending the City Core and City Frame. These changes were adopted by Council in February, before receiving approval from the State Government and final ratification at last week's council meeting. The Property Council has long supported these changes as being critical to improving the feasibility equation for new inner city apartment projects. We commend Brisbane City Council for its proactive stance in helping to boost much-needed housing supply in well-located areas. Click here to find out more: https://lnkd.in/gKPSGrp2

Last night, Queensland Parliament passed legislation to reinstate the Queensland Productivity Commission. The Property Council welcomes the Queensland Productivity Commission's reinstatement, having consistently advocated for its re-establishment - including in our Be A Queenslander state election platform last year. In December, the Property Council made a submission to the parliamentary inquiry into the legislation. We reiterated the importance of having a body that can provide independent insights and advice into the challenges facing Queensland. We look forward to working with the Queensland Productivity Commission to identify opportunities for a more productive, efficient and prosperous Queensland economy.
