PSA member Kelly Jezercic works for the NSW Department of Education as a School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) at Liverpool Hospital School. "My role is varied and flexible, responding to the individual needs of the students on any particular day. My daily duties include setting up the classroom each morning, supporting students bedside as well as in the classroom, delivering intervention programs such as Quicksmart numeracy and literacy, providing post-school career education, organising and delivering specialised Learning Packs to each student and I'm always there to provide an empathetic, listening ear to support families during difficult times," said Kelly. "Here at Liverpool Hospital School we provide lots of opportunities for targeted numeracy and literacy interventions. Our students also engage in weekly music and Spanish programs as well as incursions from the Georges River Environmental Centre. LHS also supports students in post school pathways and career education. The incredibly important work being done by our members across the state is recognised and respected by the PSA. Kelly and her colleagues working in every NSW Public School are true Champions of the State! #education #schools #slso #nsw NSW Government

“The Premier’s Department Circular C2024-03 NSW Government Sector workplace presence does not mandate the number of days staff are required in the office. The PSA [Public Association] says NSW Treasury is the only NSW Department to propose a three-day-a-week return to the office,” PSA communications to members said. - The Mandarin

SYDNEY DRIVERS KEPT IN THE DARK The NSW government commissioned Professor Fels and economist David Cousins to conduct a review of Sydney's toll roads as a part of its 2023 election promise to slash prices on the network. Their 382-page final report is calling for prices on the network to be controlled by a new state government agency.

PSA STANDS UP FOR WORKPLACE FLEXIBILITY FOR MEMBERS In August 2024, the Minns Government issued a circular urging Public Sector workers to spend more working hours in their offices. “While acknowledging many of our members do not have the option to work from home, the PSA has always fought for flexible working arrangements,” said General Secretary Stewart Little. “This includes, where possible, working from home for those whose roles do not rely on them attending a specific site.” Mr Little said the circular ignored a stark reality; since many agencies were moved to Parramatta, there are often more employees than work stations.
