We have been among the first responders to begin the vital task of checking infrastructure across Brisbane City for cyclone damage and risks to public safety. Public Safety Training & Response Group (RTO 45395), based in Oxley, utilised its ground crews to conduct rapid damage assessments of the city’s road corridors and bridges, while its drone crew assessed the ferries, and a helicopter was tasked to conduct damage assessments from the air. Meegan Olding, CEO of Public Safety Training & Response Group said “We have a great relationship with Brisbane City Council, we work well together, this is a considerable emergency, we are honoured to be able to help council and the community in any way we can. “The unpredictability of the conditions made it tricky to know when it was safe to send up the helicopter, but it was important to do so as soon as possible to make sure Brisbane City Council and emergency services were aware of exactly what sort of damage was sustained and what needs to be done to help those communities.” Weather permitting, the damage assessments will continue tomorrow (March 9), including aerial assessments of Moreton Island, which endured some of the most severe conditions as Cyclone Alfred hit overnight, before being downgraded to a Category 1 and then a Tropical Low. Public Safety Training & Response Group was also approached by BCC earlier in the week to checks on the welfare of homeless residents living along Brisbane River, a service that was carried out free of charge for the community and its most at-risk residents. Public Safety Training & Response Group personnel, all military and ex-emergency services, conducted a sweep of the river and many of its tributaries to inform homeless residents of the pending dangers and advise them on where to seek support. More on the welfare checks for at-risk residents: https://lnkd.in/gzS_psXg Public Safety Training & Response Group is an independent Australian-owned sovereign company based at Oxley that specialises in all aspects of public safety. The Group conducts training in public safety, from basic first aid and CPR through to swiftwater rescue, and helicopter rescue crew and pilot training, while its rescue arm utilises a suite of assets, from IRBs, jet skis, drones, high clearance vehicles, and helicopters to conduct commercial search and rescue support services. Public Safety Training & Response Group has a number of formal agreements with local governments around Queensland to provide expert training in public safety, and surge rescue and support services during emergencies. Homeless residents who camp along Brisbane River have not been forgotten during the Cyclone Alfred emergency, with One Response utilising its rescue boats to do welfare checks of at-risk men and women. One Response, an arm of Public Safety Training & Response Group (RTO 45395) specialises in public safety, utilising its suite of rescue boats, jet skis, high clearance vehicles and helicopters to help those facing natural disasters and emergencies across Queensland and Australia. “The high winds and rain, and the likelihood of flooding from Cyclone Alfred, poses a major risk and it is important that anyone who is vulnerable – especially those homeless living along our rivers and in our parks - are also made aware of the danger and the support that is available,” said Meegan Olding, CEO of Public Safety Training & Response Group. “We were more than pleased to be able to support Brisbane City Council in utilising our expertise and trained personnel to make sure the community’s most vulnerable are also supported during this rare and serious weather event. “Public Safety Training & Response Group, of which One Response is our rescue arm, is heavily committed to public safety; we pride ourselves on being well equipped with well-trained personnel – with military and emergency services backgrounds – to help keep people are as safe as possible.” One Response personnel, all military trained, conducted a sweep of the river and many of its tributaries to inform homeless residents of the pending dangers and advise them on where to seek support. This service was conducted free of charge as a service to the community.
