Our new LifeFlight hangar now has a roof that will offer some respite from the heat for the team building the new $30m Aeromedical Hub at the Mt Isa Airport. The Newlands Group team and local contractors remain on track for completing the new facility later this year, which co-locates both Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) and LifeFlight services.

When LifeFlight says “anywhere”, we mean – anywhere. Even croc-infested, “middle of nowhere,” 300-nautical mile, 3-hour, one-way trips with multiple fuel stops. Our Mt Isa crew flew right over the flooded roads that blocked other emergency services from continuing their own search for the North West Queensland couple that LifeFlight crews treated and comforted on Saturday. Being able to rescue people in their darkest days, is super rewarding for our crews. “We flew over them and saw the two SOS signs on the road and the husband and wife waving frantically in the middle of the track,” pilot Mark Overton said. “Needless to say, they were very happy to see us.” “It was a very, very long day. But it’s days like that, where we help people who really need us that make doing the job so incredible and worthwhile.” It may be a cranky crocodile we have to thank for the incredible national media coverage this rescue has created – but it’s our LifeFlight crew we have to thank for saving these people’s lives when they’d given up on being rescued.

This incredible rescue vision shows the moment our Bundaberg team winched four fishermen to safety, after their boat capsized off K'gari yesterday afternoon. Our rescue helicopter crew was called into action by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority at 4.20pm after the men set off an EPIRB when their boat was swamped by a wave. The fisherman wore lifejackets and clung to their overturned boat while they waited for help to arrive. Once they were winched into the safety of the chopper, they were assessed by a Queensland Ambulance Service paramedic and flown to Hervey Bay Airport. Thankfully, no one was injured and hospital transport wasn’t required.
