  • This #takealookinside Tuesday, retiring Lotus Glen Correctional Centre Dog Handler Terry reflects on 35 years of service with Queensland Corrective Services. From his early days as a Senior Correctional Officer to appointments as Supervisor, Manager of Centre Services and Accommodation and a secondment with the audit team, the retiring Dog Handler has experienced it all through a life in Corrections. Thank you, Terry, for your service! If you want to be just like Terry and make a real difference in people's lives, visit https://lnkd.in/g-QMm6Z.

  • This #takealookinside Tuesday, we head off to Capricornia Correctional Centre to see how low security prisoners have tackled a historic restoration project! The old horse drawn wagon was in a state of disrepair, weathering the elements as it sat behind one of the centre's administration buildings for a number of years. With guidance from QCS trade instructors, the project - and many others like it - has provided prisoners with vital skills to boost employment skills upon reintegration into the community, leading to a reduction in recidivism. If you're looking to make a real difference in people's lives, like our amazing trade instructors, visit https://lnkd.in/g-QMm6Z.

  • "Mostly I need to thank my team. My team are amazing, and I would never be here today without their support and getting behind me and replicating my passion for what we do." Congratulations to QCS Education Services Manager Tracy Taylor, following her win at the QBANK Everyday Hero Awards event last Friday. Tracy took home the Ownership award, which honours a person who’s demonstrated empowerment and integrity. Tracy was recognised for her work in rehabilitation, specifically the educational partnerships and training programs she implemented to upskill prisoners to improve their transition from prison to employment on release.

  • #FlashbackFriday: Remember Lotus Glen Correctional Centre's Environmental Management Recycling Program? 🤔🙋 Well, it's been nominated as a finalist in the Waste Innovation and Recycling Awards for most Outstanding WARR (Waste and Resource Recovery) Project, Regional/Rural! 🎉 Celebrated for diverting about 50% of the centre’s waste from landfill, it’s not only Queensland’s largest recycling program in a correctional facility but it’s also providing employable skills to prisoners to increase their opportunities upon release – a win/win! We wish the team all the best in vying for the national award on October 23.

This #takealookinside Tuesday highlights how QCS is helping Keep Australia Beautiful through initiatives like our award-winning Environmental Recycling Program at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre. More than 700kgs of waste is collected and sorted each day, taking 9 skips of landfill down to two. Landfill is reduced, we’re sending every piece of plastic we can off to be repurposed and the work program prisoners are learning about environmental management. It is one of many community-minded programs we are committed to at QCS. Choose a career that makes a difference, visit https://lnkd.in/gqNtpzK

  • We've gone absolutely bananas for this #takealookinside Tuesday, heading to Tropical North Queensland to catch up with Field Supervisor Shane from the Innisfail Work Camp! 🌴 🍌 The open custody work camp supports the local council, community and not-for-profit organisations through labour, maintaining public spaces and assisting community events. Find your tropical tree change in Far North Queensland - or anywhere in the state - with a career in corrections. Visit https://lnkd.in/g-QMm6Z.

  • This #takealookinside Tuesday, we visit Townsville Correctional Complex to see how NAIDOC celebrations build understanding and connection through culture. Held in August to accommodate visiting elders, the centre's NAIDOC celebrations present a chance to learn and share more about First Nations people and culture, to better support and address their needs while in custody and during reintegration into community.
