Successful "Buzz Off Ticks & Flies" Field Day Highlights Natural Pest Management. We're stoked to share the success of our "Buzz Off Ticks & Flies" field day held in Banana yesterday! 🌿 With 50 attendees, the event was a total success, fostering valuable discussions and practical insights into natural pest management. A key highlight was observing the really super work of dung beetles. Yes dung beetles. 🐞 We witnessed 400-500 dung beetles, representing six different species, within a single cow pat! This remarkable activity underscores the significant role these insects play in disrupting fly and parasite lifecycles, as well as boosting crucial nutrient recycling. 🔄 Our sincere gratitude to Rob Young from EcoInsects and Henry Hinds from RCS for their expert presentations and guidance. Their knowledge on dung beetles, biocontrol, and grazing strategies was invaluable. 🤝 The day also featured: Discussions on time-controlled (rotational) grazing and Leucaena-based pastures. 🌾 Insights into efficient water reticulation systems. 💧 A comprehensive property tour, showcasing these techniques in action. 🚜 We'd also like to extend our thanks to Tom and Ruth Wagner for graciously hosting the event. This project was supported by FRRR, through funding from the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund, emphasizing our commitment to "Empowering Tomorrow: Unlocking Youth Potential in Central Queensland." Stay tuned for announcements regarding our upcoming special events! We're committed to providing ongoing opportunities for learning and professional development.
