The 2024 Australian Disaster Resilience Conference took place in Sydney, 4-5 September 2024 at the International Convention Centre. #ADRC24 Resilient Sydney hosted an interactive space where the councils of Greater Sydney showcased their resilience initiatives. Campbelltown City Council conducted a live demonstration of their Emergency Help Hub, a resource designed to assist residents in preparing for and recovering from emergencies. This online tool provides real-time data from emergency service providers, including the NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW State Emergency Service, and the Bureau of Meteorology, ensuring that residents receive timely updates during emergencies. https://lnkd.in/g9qBJGVu Willoughby City Council presented their 'Hi Neighbours' program, which aims to foster neighbourly connections and reduce social isolation among residents of high-rise apartments. A comprehensive toolkit, developed in collaboration with Lane Cove Council, is available for residents and building managers. This toolkit includes ideas, examples, and downloadable templates to support the development of friendly and resilient apartment communities. https://lnkd.in/gZ-PjzJa City of Sydney and Resilient Sydney jointly presented "Cool 'Hot Policy to Cool Hubs: Tackling Australia’s Silent Killer in Greater Sydney." This week Resilient Sydney’s Chief Resilience Officer Beck Dawson had the immense privilege to be in Guadalajara, Mexico to support the release of the city’s first Metropolitan Resilience Strategy and to join cities from the Resilient Cities Network in a knowledge exchange on metropolitan resilience planning. Congratulations to Guadalajara, for a world class event and thankyou to our fellow cities in the Resilient Cities Network for so generously sharing your wisdom and experience. Resilient Sydney will use so many ideas and innovations seen this week in the second resilience strategy for Sydney, currently in development. The first Metropolitan Resilience Strategy for Guadalajara was developed by Instituto de Planeación y Gestión del Desarrollo del AMG (Imeplan) and the 9 municipalities that comprise the metropoliation area, multiple government levels, sectors and communities. Planned actions will enable a more resilient, equal and sustainable future for more than 5 millions people. Thank you to Imeplan, Resilient Cities Network, Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) and the European Union in Mexico for generously bringing us together for the Congress. So great to be learning from you all. We have so much in common!
