"There have been some recent literature reviews that have been conducted that actually show that there's not a lot of evidence to support the reason of disease risk reduction..." In typical dairy farms, calves are separated from cows soon after birth for a variety of reasons - here Dr Natalie Roadknight of RSPCA Australia describes these reasons, and also why we should be rethinking the way we manage these animals. This video contains snippets from the RSPCA Great & Small Talk podcast episode "Delving into dairy cow welfare". About us
The RSPCA is an independent, community-based charity providing animal care and protection services across the country. The RSPCA federation works collaboratively to make animals’ lives better. The RSPCA’s member Societies in each state and territory run animal rehoming shelters, investigate and prosecute animal cruelty complaints, educate the community on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, and advocate for changes in policy and practice that improve the welfare of animals. RSPCA Australia, as the federation’s national body, is a leading source of animal welfare science, and works with governments and industries to progress animal welfare across a range of issues. In addition, RSPCA Australia runs the RSPCA Approved Farming Scheme, which works with farmers and brands to improve the lives of millions of farm animals.

If you happen to find a seemingly injured or abandoned bird, it's important to know the right steps to take in case the bird does indeed need your assistance. Here are the key points to keep in mind if you do find a bird that's injured or abandoned: 🦜 check if the bird is actually injured / abandoned 🦜 if the bird is just a feathered baby, they may have just left the nest while the parents are feeding nearby - leave them alone and watch & wait for the parents to return 🦜 if the parents don't appear, call a local wildlife rescue organisation and describe the bird. They will provide further advice 🦜 if the bird is indeed injured or abandoned, keep them safe, quiet, still and warm & seek further advice Click the link below or the one in our bio for contact details for wildlife rescue organisations across Australia https://rspca.au/vwPonB

We are pleased to be welcoming BRAVECTO on board as the official National Health Partner of the RSPCA! We are extremely grateful to receive support from MSD Animal Health with the provision of vaccines and BRAVECTO for animals in our care. With over 87,000 animals coming through our shelters each year, this support is extremely important and ensures that the animals remain free from fleas, ticks, and other parasites and diseases. We are excited to work together to make animals' lives better 🐾 #rspca #animalwelfare

While we work toward the long-overdue transition away from live sheep export, we're reminded of the long history of disasters that brought us to this point. There are few greater examples of this than our troubled history with live sheep exports to Saudi Arabia, which only recommenced late last year after being suspended since 2012. The reality is Saudi Arabia’s history of live export from Australia is one riddled with impulsive rejections and animal welfare disasters.
