An off-duty police officer, Sergeant David Mitchell, intervened when he noticed an elderly Adelaide woman falling victim to a crypto scam. The 84-year-old had been tricked into believing her savings were stolen and was pressured into depositing $1,100 into a crypto ATM, thanks to the swift actions of Sgt Mitchell the scam stopped there. Under a plan to tighten up South Australia’s domestic violence laws and to protect victims, tougher penalties punishable by up to 10 years in prison, have been proposed. This comes after a recent review of current laws found that too many cases of strangulation were not progressing through the justice system, and that there was a lack of clarity around the legal definitions of these behaviours.
