We’re thrilled to have been recognised last night at the UDIA National awards for our South Australia’s Virtual Power Plant project, winning the Social and Community Infrastructure Award category. The project, a collaboration between the Housing Trust, Tesla and the Department for Energy and Mining, South Australia, aims to provide more affordable, reliable, and secure electricity for all South Australians. It has led to over 6500 eligible Housing Trust properties being connected to a power generating network comprised of solar panels and Tesla Powerwall home battery systems and the network is growing more every day. The SA VPP has already helped stabilise the power grid on numerous occasions including during major bushfire events. For more information on the SA VPP you can visit: https://lnkd.in/gkW7Sipw UDIA SA

Working to provide better housing choices for South Australians
About us
The SA Housing Trust (the Trust) works to enable South Australians to access appropriate housing. We play a fundamental role in supporting South Australians into homes that are secure, safe, and positive for their wellbeing: housing is a human right. We build and manage public housing and have a large asset portfolio across the state, focussed on providing tenancies for those who cannot access and sustain other housing options. We also provide temporary crisis and transitional accommodation for people with an immediate need, especially women and children escaping domestic and family violence. We support community housing providers to expand the availability of social and affordable housing for those with limited housing options, and work with them to modernise homes. Beyond this, we are instrumental in supporting the broader housing market and create thriving inclusive communities, with supportive amenities and housing choices. We connect those in low and moderate income households to the right housing options through grants to access and sustain private rental, and through policy that supports home ownership. We are also directly increasing the supply, availability, and diversity of affordable housing for sale, building planned homes for purchase through our own development arm. The Trust is supporting South Australia’s growth and transforming neighbourhoods, building on existing character with high quality climate-focussed design. We are outcomes driven and aim for our services to be flexible and accessible. While we invest in public housing and aim to be a good landlord, we are also setting housing policy and sustaining housing for the benefit of all.

These new units will provide safe housing for at-risk women and their families. We were proud to partner with YWCA Australia to provide financial support for the project, which features 24 rental apartments for women in need of long-term affordable housing, many of whom will have been affected by family or domestic violence. These new homes have been completed in addition to other women’s housing projects under construction in the Adelaide CBD, including our Tucker Street accommodation for older women at risk of homelessness. Together, projects like these will have a huge positive impact for women in our community.

We’re building modern public housing all around Adelaide, including these new blocks of flats in the northern and western suburbs. Constructed by our partners at Buildtec Group, the combined sites will provide 20, two bedroom homes, that include accessible lower-level dwellings, off-street undercover parking, and air conditioning. Both sites are a part of our Public Housing Improvement Program (PHIP) and our ongoing effort to build better housing for South Australians.

We’re not just building homes; we’re building communities! This beautiful neighbourhood under construction in Adelaide’s north features both public housing for rent as well as homes for purchase through our Affordable Housing Initiative. The homes are being built by our partners at Fairmont Homes Group and Mayton Built. The development is well located, with a school, large reserve and train station all nearby. The central communal space offers shared parking spaces and many trees that will grow to provide cooling shade. It’s no wonder these homes went quick!

A big welcome to the newest members of the Housing Trust Graduate Program; Shaun, Ronak, Sam, and Saloni! The 2025 Graduate Program will offer the group a 24-month employment opportunity where they’ll be able to practically apply skills and knowledge they’ve learned to a range of meaningful projects. The program provides structured opportunities for development as a cohort, including networking, regional visits, and formal learning programs. It was great to bring the new grads together at a recent morning tea where they were able to hear from former graduate program participants about how their experience helped kickstart their careers at the Trust.

🏘 437 new public homes are nearing completion, with works now underway on our final PHIP 437 site. Over the past two years, the Public Housing Improvement Program (PHIP) has steadily delivered new rental homes across our state, thanks to a $200 million investment in public housing. 158 homes have been completed so far, and with works now commenced at the final site it means all remaining PHIP 437 properties are under construction. Thanks to our many building partners for helping us reach this major milestone! ℹ️ In addition to 437 new homes, the Public Housing Improvement Program also includes major works on 350 vacant homes and improvements to 3000 tenanted homes. PHIP is just one of several of our programs and initiatives to deliver more housing for South Australia.

🚧 We’re working on hundreds of housing projects at any given time. Just in the suburb of Edwardstown alone we've got multiple construction sites where we’re building affordable housing for purchase, public housing for rent, Aboriginal housing, and undertaking major maintenance on vacant properties. For every project we post about, there are often many more like it going on right around the state. It's all part of our commitment to build more housing for South Australians.

We’re excited to announce the completion and delivery of 29 new homes at Harbrow Grove, one of the latest projects from our Affordable Housing Initiative. The development offers a selection of modern, 2-3 bedroom homes, conveniently located near public transport, schools, shopping centres and Flinders University. The homes were built by Bradford Projects by Scott Salisbury Group, and have all been sold to HomeSeeker SA eligible buyers at fixed prices between $485,000 and $585,000 – significantly below the current median property price for Seacombe Gardens of $770,000. Projects like these not only help South Australians achieve homeownership, they also relieve pressure on the rental market and low-income housing for those most in need. For those interested in future affordable housing projects, we encourage you to stay informed through HomeSeeker SA.
