She Codes is on a mission to teach women coding skills, get women into technical careers, and build communities of like-minded women. Our vision is to increase diversity in tech by inspiring 100,000 women across Australia by 2025.
Last weekend we were BLOWN AWAY by #sydney. More than 70 women turned out at Microsoft Reactor (thanks Isabel Negrete for hosting us!!) for a day packed full of energy, networking, conversation and cupcakes. This wouldn't be possible without the support of Insight led by powerhouse birthday girl Lisa Armitage, and Commonwealth Bank.
Check out the highlights from the day <3
𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃!
We hosted the first-ever multicultural edition of 𝐂𝐮𝐩𝐜𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 & 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞, a one-day workshop at the heart of Western Sydney, right here at the 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 in Seven Hills!
In partnership with Kate Kirwin, 2024 WA Young Australian of the Year and founder of She Codes Australia, and Amar Singh JP, 2023 Australian of the Year and President of Turbans 4 Australia (T4A), we created a vibrant space for connection, inspiration, and growth. Together, we’re breaking barriers and building pathways for women to enter or re-enter the workforce!
We were also thrilled to have a surprise visit from Stephen Bali, State Member for Blacktown, who shared his support for our mission.
At the 𝐂𝐮𝐩𝐜𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 & 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞 workshop, women from all backgrounds learned beginner-level coding skills in a fun and supportive environment. It was a day filled with inspiration, confidence-building, and new friendships — all vital steps toward financial independence.
This event is part of 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭'𝐬 𝐢𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞, designed to empower financially and socially disadvantaged women from diverse backgrounds. Many migrant women possess the qualifications but lack local experience and professional networks. iShine creates a safe space for women to connect, uplift one another, and grow together.
Let’s continue to uplift each other and shine together!

On Saturday we hosted our very first First Nations one day workshop in collaboration with Garlett Group at Reconciliation WA 💜. It was a day full of code, cupcakes, bushtukka, SO MUCH yarning and conversation, and meaningful connections.
We are really passionate about providing opportunities that are inclusive for all women. Our indigenous sisters have 60,000+ years of knowledge of this land and we can’t help but think how much richer and more powerful our society can be if we give them a voice.
This event was the first of its kind for us, and a big shout out goes to City of Perth and Garlett Group for making it happen. Our 14 mentors who came down and shared their wisdom and energy, we thank you. A special call out goes to Ross Minney and Devhouse for providing a solution for super fast wifi and, as always, the fabulous Josh Fernandes who photographed the event.
🖤💛❤️
We had an amazing day with the first ever First Nations edition of She Codes Australia in partnership with City of Perth!
Thank you to our amazing participants (who were kicking goals all day), our fabulous mentors and the She Codes and Garlett Group team for bringing it all all together! 💻
#FirstNationsinTech
Today I had the pleasure of attending the She Codes Australia First Nations edition workshop at Reconciliation WA, hosted by Garlett Group.
Although I arrived late (after spending all morning learning Django with my Plus program cohort!) I was welcomed with the biggest smiles and so 👏🏻 much 👏🏻 excitement 👏🏻 from attendees about what they had achieved in just a few short hours, it truly blew my mind, they are all amazing!! HTML, CSS and Python were the main topics - look at us all being <head> tags!
Thank you Gina for inviting me to come with you, and to Kate for letting me join the fun late, and to all the mentors who were there on a Saturday to teach and inspire and collaborate - what an amazing bunch of people you all are. 💜
I’m absolutely buzzing for the next edition and cannot wait to join for the full day next time! ✨
🌱 She Codes Update 🌱
It’s been 2 months since I started the She Codes Australia course and we have already learnt so much about programming, coding and the world of tech!
This is my first portfolio project, created in HTML and CSS (and a tiny bit of JavaScript) - a bit of a late update, but I’m excited to share!
I created this portfolio with the idea of reflecting my skills and interests in my own ‘world’. This was a fun way to get creative and provide a unique user experience when visiting my portfolio.
It is still a work in progress - with plans to improve responsiveness and have full functionality of the ‘wordle’ game - but it is nice to see how far I’ve come!
Have a look here - currently best viewed on larger screens…
