About us

Women in Technology WA is a Perth-based, not for profit organisation providing a framework for women in Technology to extend their network and expand their knowledge on a broad range of professional topics. Our members, both women and men, encourage youth and women to choose technology-based careers. We want to encourage all young people to consider technology as a stimulating and viable profession and support them in that pursuit. We also seek to raise the status of women in Australian business and in the technology industries. We endorse open conversation and debate. New faces and all genders are always welcome. Our highly anticipated yearly event: WiTWA Tech [+] Conference & Awards is our unique offering to the WA community to meet the role models, members, community and supporters in one place! WiTWA Tech [+] Conference 2024 - Taking our cue from this year’s UN Women theme around investing in women to accelerate progress, Our Conference theme for this year is ‘EARN, LEARN, & LEAD’. It encapsulates the essence of what we strive for and will focus on how to collectively create better (and more!) opportunities for women in technology to Earn, Learn & Lead. • Techtrails STEM WA was at Balga Senior High School with 150 Year 8 and 9 Students! 🤩 🎉 Recently the Techtrails STEM WA Team kicked off the year with their First Techtrails STEM School Incursions Cluster within the Balga and Girrawheen communities and surrounding areas for 2025. 💜 The energy was electric, the students were excited, the teachers were amazed, and the Role Models championed the day with their phenomenal career journeys, real life work experience, and hands on industry activities whilst exploring 'Jobs of the Future'. The students and teachers highlights from the day, were: Kat Ross & Angie Waszewski – Space, Science & Black Holes 🌠 Kat and Angie captivated students with their deep dive into space, science, black holes, and the mysteries of the universe. They guided students through the process of searching for black holes, exploring the lifecycle of stars, and understanding the vastness of space through hands-on activities and scientific discussions. Scott McCue – Aviation & Engineering ✈️ Scott introduced students to the principles of aviation, explaining how planes achieve flight and the critical role engineers play in designing and testing aircrafts. Through interactive demonstrations and real-time lapse visuals, students experienced the complexities of aerodynamics and engineering problem-solving within the classroom. Sonny K. – Rail Infrastructure & Project Innovation 🚂 Sonny provided insight into the world of rail infrastructure, highlighting the innovations and projects shaping the future of transportation. Students learned about railway engineering, project development, and the technology behind modern rail systems, gaining a deeper appreciation for the role of infrastructure in everyday life. Eden C. – Biotechnology & Coding 🧬💻 Eden Coelho introduced students to the intersection of biotechnology and coding, demonstrating how these fields merge to drive innovation in science and technology. Through engaging activities, students explored genetic research, programming applications, and how AI and coding is revolutionising the biotech industry. Grace Redfern – Zoology & Research 🦂🐨 Grace shared her expertise in research, taxonomy, and zoology, with a special focus on pseudoscorpions and other fascinating creatures. Students learned about species classification, ecological research, and the importance of conservation. Through hands-on exploration and constructing their own creatures, they gained insights into the diverse and often overlooked world of wildlife. A huge thank you to our inspiring speaker role models, Teagen McEwan our keynote speaker on Sports, AI and Jobs of the Future, and to the amazing event team Jai Som, Alice Waters.💜 Videos of Techtrails at Balga SHS are coming soon, thanks to Andrew McKenzie.
