In 2016, we planted our roots in Sydney's picturesque Barangaroo, where we serviced the Australasia market. 2020 witnessed a remarkable milestone as we established our first international office in London. Expanding on this success, we ventured into the U.S. legal market by opening an office in New York in 2022 and in 2023 we proudly launched our L.A. office in the bustling business district of Century City. Our reach, however, extends far beyond these four office locations. Sonder's influence stretches across continents, spanning the vast APAC region, the dynamic UAE, offshore jurisdictions, and all significant U.S. markets.     Slaughter and May has increased pay for its newly qualified (NQ) lawyers to £150,000 💷 This marks a 20% salary boost from the firm’s previous pay of £125,000, and brings Slaughters in line with fellow Magic Circle players A&O Shearman, Clifford Chance, Freshfields, and Linklaters, all of whom increased salaries earlier this year.

    --- 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗿𝗮𝗽 𝗨𝗽 ------ - Sonder Consultants Coming off the biggest August we have had in three years, our internal data certainly supports that the global lateral recruitment market is trending in the right direction. 𝗔 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲: 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 We are seeing interviews getting wrapped up within 4 weeks from first submission to offer, most candidates are receiving multiple offers at once and firms are working hard (despite the summer holidays) to move candidates through the process as quickly as possible. 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 Although the market is picking up, the feedback we are receiving from candidates is that interviews are difficult and your technical capabilities will be tested. Interviews are commercial - as an example, we recently had an australian based associate interview at a V10 firm in New York who was asked "What do you think your comparative advantage is to lawyers who are already based in New York and working at a peer firm? ". It is important you are working with your recruiter to go through detailed interview prep - if this isn't happening, you are working with the wrong recruiter. 𝙋𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙙 Investment Funds, Litigation, Project Finance, Private Equity and Leveraged Finance continue to be some of the busiest practice areas across the globe, particularly at the mid level on the associate side. In California particularly, partners with a sizeable book of business in Corporate continue to be in high demand! 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 In the US preference is still very much for locally qualified candidates who don't need to be sponsored. We have seen international hiring pick up in August for Canadians and Australians but this is for candidates at the very elite level and it is extremely competitive - we do expect this to improve as we close out Q4 and move into Q1. In the UK, July and August have seen a huge uptick in international associate hiring which will only continue to improve.
