All Australians should take pride in the achievements of Indigenous businesses who are not only closing the gap but shaping the broader economy. However, this success is often obstructed and overshadowed by the attention given to ‘black cladding’. Supply Nation CEO and proud Awabakal woman, Kate Russell states: “We cannot let the sensationalism associated with the term ‘black cladding’ continue to demean the success and significant contribution Indigenous businesses are making to maintaining growth and prosperity across Australia’s economies. In my role I am privileged to see over 5,500 genuine Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses on our Indigenous Business Direct database making a tangible difference to their families and communities”. Happy International Women's Day 💜 This year’s theme #MarchForward, is a call to action to continue the fight for equity and opportunities for women. Proud Awabakal woman and Supply Nation CEO, Kate Russell shares her thoughts: “On International Women's Day we reflect on the positive impact First Nations women are making globally. We are business owners, policymakers, caretakers, knowledge holders, activists and leaders. Supply Nation’s recent research shows that businesses owned by Indigenous women are thriving, creating meaningful change in their communities. Despite this progress, Indigenous women are still often relegated to the margins of the margins. IWD reminds us to keep investing in women and girls, so we can create a stronger, more inclusive society and economic prosperity.” #IWD2025 #SupplyNation #SupplierDiversity #IndigenousBusiness
