The all-inclusive Great Ocean Road Womens Surf Fest in Lorne on December 7 and 8 will provide opportunities for female surfers of all backgrounds and experiences to celebrate their love for surfing and the ocean. It will feature more than 20 different participation opportunities spread all over Lorne’s bustling township. Surfing Victoria is welcoming Ghanda as presenting partner of the event. They will provide learn to surf lessons for women and girls alongside local surf school Go Ride A Wave. "It's not the first time there'll be a surfer-led rescue at Phillip Island, (and) it's certainly not going to be the last. Surfers are the forgotten frontline defence for water safety." Cahill credited much of his ability to perform the rescue to the education and training he's received through Surfing Victoria, noting while performing citizen rescues surfers often put themselves in great danger. "As surfers, the main message is we're going to be on the front line. So the most important thing to do is the training, so you can safely rescue crew if you ever need to, but do it safely and efficiently," Cahill said. Day 1 of the Rip Curl GromSearch Phillip Island, presented by Bass Coast Shire Council, kicked off with outstanding surfing on display in the opening rounds. Under clear blue skies and a rising swell, the competition was relocated to Smiths Beach, which provided perfect 2-foot lefts and rights for the Under 14 divisions to tear apart.
