Last week, Synergy Group attended the TEDxCanberra Illuminate event which we were lucky enough to Sponsor! Through tears and laughter, we learnt about the fragility (and opportunity) of life before death, the intersection of Indigenous knowledge and scientific inquiry, of how Aussie AI is solving global challenges, and much more. We were challenged in our thinking, and inspired to take action! Last Friday, we conjured up some magic at our End-of-Month Drinks for October, inspired by the enchanting world of Harry Potter!🧙♂️✨ The Synergy Law team transformed our ThinkPlaceX office into a whimsical Hogwarts, complete with a Sorting Hat to determine which houses we were sorted into. We indulged in delicious food, enjoyed great company, and connected with colleagues who are normally out on client sites. Synergy Group's ThinkPlaceX team has partnered with the UNDP Global Centre, Singapore to address the growing and continual threat of scams in developing countries.   The coalition-based approach aims to connect a diverse set of global organisations - regulators, law enforcement, banks, telecoms, social media platforms, digital services, civil society, and more - to mobilise quickly through shared capabilities   The first milestone is the launch of the Anti-Scam handbook. The handbook is designed to bring these stakeholders together as a connected ecosystem, equipped to create real impact. Synergy Group was delighted to host our thought-leading Lecture Series at the National Press Club of Australia, on Tuesday 22 October. ‘Tearing at the Seams: Disinformation, Social Cohesion and National Resilience’ brought together experts across Government to discuss the challenges of disinformation and online extremism, and how as a nation we can better prepare and protect our community. Disinformation is corrosive to social cohesion and trust and undermines our values as a vibrant liberal democracy. Understanding this ecosystem and how it is commodified through social media engagement is only the first step; we urgently need a strategic approach coordinated across federal, state, territory and local governments to combat the scourge of disinformation. We are extraordinarily grateful to our panellists His Excellency Mr Vasyl Myroshnychenko Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia, Ginger Gorman, and Meg Tapia for their passion and engagement. This week, Synergy Group had the privilege of contributing to the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) National Conference. Program Design and Delivery capability Senior Manager Robert Gorayski, MBA delivered a presentation on the Principles of Data-Driven PMO. During his talk, Robert outlined five foundational principles for transforming a PMO into a high-performing, data-driven function. He emphasised the value of a data-led, evidence-based approach and pointed to the importance of strong governance frameworks to ensure transparency and maintain data integrity, alongside solid Project Management Fundamentals to uphold operational efficiency. Robert pointed out the crucial role of Culture in driving adoption, noting that cultivating a data-centric mindset is key to embedding these practices and ensuring long-term success. The CPA Congress was a wonderful opportunity to network and engage with our peers. With Synergy Group being the Principal Sponsor of the event, our booth and Mini took pride of place and garnered a lot of interest. A wide variety of topics were covered, with AI featuring prominently across the sessions. We learnt that AI in the workplace must be embraced to free us up to do the value add, human thinking. We heard from the Managing Director of Kmart, Ian Bailey, who stressed the importance of knowing what you are good at and building a team around you to support you in areas you find challenging. Fighter Pilot and Entrepreneur, Wy-Man (Sinbad) Lee, inspired us to master the art of flawless execution (FLEX) by stressing the importance of debriefs, with these communicated in such a way to be nameless and rankless. It’s not about who’s right but what’s right. We also learnt how to unleash the innovator within us and were challenged to think outside the box. An amazing example of this was how a hospital in the USA vastly improved its ICU handover procedure by engaging with a Ferrari pit stop crew! A final takeaway was to never goal alone and by finding someone to go on the journey with you can reap great rewards.
