Really powerful to see the strong reaction and interest in our latest research with the National Association of Women in Construction (AU). We can feel the momentum building for drastic change across the industry and the call for a more equitable and inclusive sector. “The construction sector has been actively trying to overhaul its notorious reputation for its low female participation rate, however, it seems these efforts are in vain,” our founder Sarah Liu said. With high employee turnover businesses lose money, and women being forced from the industry cuts the sector’s access to half the population. “This report highlights once again - that, more often than not, it is the workplace culture and systemic barrier that holds women back.” Lisa (Hogben) Martello Vanessa Hetherington Kylie Judd Michelle H. “There are many instances where microaggressions manifest in everyday interactions. For example, women in construction frequently hear dismissive comments such as, ‘You can’t take a joke’ when they call out inappropriate behaviour, suggesting that their concerns are overreactions. In another common scenario, women in leadership roles are often mistaken for executive assistants or meeting hosts, rather than being recognised for their expertise. It sends a message that women don’t belong in high-level roles, which can be incredibly frustrating and demoralising." Our DEI Consultant, Michelle H., shares her view on the current state of the construction industry, the reality and challenges for women working within it and advises where we should go from here, off the back of our latest research in partnership with NAWIC NSW - National Association of Women in Construction

Counting down the last 2 weeks before our book gets released across 300+ book stores (+online) in Japan, and you are invited to join us! It's been a special one to put together featuring stories from some of our favourite clients (including Asahi Group Holdings Manulife Japan Nissan Motor Corporation Ridgelinez JERA Co., Inc. We've also had the privilege in this process to interview Minister Seiko Noda who was hands down one of the most inspiring politician in Japan I've ever met - whose story I can not wait to share with you all. She will be joining us as one of the opening speaker at the launch event alongside Miyuki Suzuki and Justin Hayhurst, Australia's Ambassador to Japan - an opportunity not to be missed. Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a webinar in partnership with the National Association of Women in Construction (AU), where we explored the insights from our latest research, “The Not-So-Little Things Affecting Women in Construction.” We were excited by the level of interest, with over 200 attendees joining the conversation. Key findings from the webinar included: - Microaggressions are a pervasive issue in the construction industry, with 88% of respondents experiencing them. - 100% of people with disabilities reported facing microaggressions, followed closely by LGBTQIA+ individuals (91%), people of color (86%), and migrants (85%). - Alarmingly, 41% of the aggressors were supervisors or managers, with clients and customers responsible for 38%. The full report will be available next week—stay tuned for more insights!
