We believe everyone wants to live more beautifully.
About us
In 2011, our co-founders, CEO Mark Coulter, CXO Adam McWhinney, NED Conrad Yiu, and founding CEO Brian Shanahan, decided to change the way people shopped for furniture and homewares. They unearthed a little known, but important Australian story. That of convicts William Temple (a carpenter) and John Webster (a carver and gilder) who were commissioned by Governor Lachlan Macquarie to make two fine chairs. As a result of their teamwork and craftsmanship, the pair were pardoned. This story about collaboration and empowerment inspired our name, Temple & Webster, with the powerful symbol at its core also showing all Australians that we can be there for whatever ‘&’ comes next in your life. Our Mission and Values We believe everyone wants to live more beautifully. Our vision is to make the world more beautiful, one room at a time. Our mission is to help everyone create beautiful spaces they absolutely love, effortlessly, in the hope that one day, every home in Australia will cherish at least one beautiful piece from Temple & Webster. To achieve our goals, we’ve created values around creativity, supportiveness, being inclusive, empowered, ambitious and getting shit done. Temple & Webster also has a Trade+Commercial program which provides businesses with access to specialised products and services, including trade discounts, furniture packages, consolidated delivery and installation solutions. Great to hear leading social commentators Bernard Salt AM, Simon Kuestenmacher and Hari Hara Priya Kannan confirm that Millennials are indeed entering their nesting phase and that we’re perfectly positioned to help.🏠🛋️ Adam McWhinney, Mark Coulter, Conrad Yiu #consumerinsights #australianhomes #OnlineFurniture

So a bit of a fangirl moment having the opportunity to see Bernard Salt AM and his team Simon Kuestenmacher and Hari Hara Priya Kannan present key themes from their Australia 2050 report. 🤩 Understanding demographic and cultural shifts is not just for us research data geeks, but critical for Founders, brand marketers and product development teams if they want to design for what the future is going to be, not what it is now. What are some of these horizon shifts? 👉 AI is NOT going to take our jobs. We are going to have a professional skills shortage (even with skilled migration). We need AI to plug the gaps and make skilled workers and professionals do the job of 2 people. Lean into AI! Friyay.ai – the future is yours! 👉 The aged care freight train is coming. Get on board – training aged care workers, making it easier to train aged care workers (online, in person), aged care facilities and providing the wrap around services for aged care. Our client The Pure Food Co is well placed to take full advantage of this. 👉 International students are our 3rd biggest export and drive demand for travel & tourism, cafes/restaurants, retail/eCommerce, grocery, automotive, shopping centres. They are also less impacted by cost of living crises. Embrace the international student! 👉 Over one-third of Australians are born overseas. In the US it is 15%. The largest inbound migration is not from UK or NZ but India, Philippines, Nepal and Pakistan. For those in food & beverage and retail/eCommerce – how are you preparing for this new wave of cultural integration. What flavours, ingredients and specialised retail outlets are you developing? Melissa Baer 👉 Australia needs to seriously increase its investment and funding of Tech startups to compete on the global stage. In the Top 10 largest companies in US 8 are Tech companies founded in the last 20 years. In Australia we have 1 – Atlassian. The others are made up of banks and mining all founded over 100 years ago! 👉 Millennials are about to enter the ‘nest building’ young family years – for those in family-focused, lifestyle, home and living retail/eCommerce – the next 10 years are going to be HUGE! For R U OK? Day 💛, we were fortunate to have Strategic Partnerships Coordinator Ben Drury from our partner Black Dog Institute, and Lived Experience Presenter and Australian Institute Of Sport Mental Fitness Ambassador Lizi Simms visit our Sydney head office. Ben shared the fantastic services and resources that Black Dog Institute offers to support Australians manage mental health, including ketamine treatment, for which Temple & Webster styled several treatment rooms for in Sydney. Lizi candidly shared her personal struggles from her days as a professional water polo player playing for Australia, to the tragic loss of her brother. Listening to Lizi openly talk about her experiences was a reminder to us all to be braver and more vulnerable in talking about mental health, and it was great to be able to learn some simple strategies on how to check in on those around us. Pictured below are Ben and Lizi with our Chief Experience Officer Adam McWhinney and some of the members of our DEI Committee Billie Fowler, Will Henderson, Christie McGuinness, Natalie Kudiwa, Olivia Stacey and Selma Nada Rajah. #mentalhealthawareness #RUOKDay
