Holy moly, Canberra! We were blown away when our pitch to The Funding Network Australia-network 's Canberra event resulted in $36,700 (!!) being donated to our benevolent fund! We shared the stage with Fearless Women and Women's Justice Network who also received incredible support for their causes - almost $125k all up! In the room were individuals, businesses and, of course, the partners for the event. We asked for support to kickstart our Pay It Forward Benevolent Fund, which is what we use to subsidise or waive funeral costs for families who are in financial need. Everyone should be able to access a meaningful and affordable funeral when the time comes, and we were so thrilled to see how much everyone in the room was behind us. This event was made possible thanks to the invaluable support of Snow Foundation, Accenture, Aspen Medical, Canberra Airport, Clayton Utz, Hands Across Canberra, John James Foundation, The Property Collective #TFNAus #TFNLIVE #livecrowdfunding #nonprofitstories #LocalCommunities #CanberraPhilanthrop

At Tender Funerals, we believe funerals and funeral care should be meaningful, authentic, and affordable.
About us
Tender Funerals Canberra Region is a not-for-profit funeral service that offers affordable, meaningful and personalised funerals and community education to empower people in their choices for dying, death and funerals. We will be opening our doors at Fairbairn in August 2024. Until then, we look forward to helping our region through advice, community information and events and the provision of cardboard coffins. We support the communities of the Canberra Region, including Yass, Goulburn, Queanbeyan, Bungendore, Braidwood and Cooma. We are a member of the Tender Funerals Network. Please contact us to find out how we can work together.

We would have loved to have all of the Canberra Region at our launch, but the next best thing is this wonderful video created by Dan on the Canberra Airport team. This captures the feel and excitement of the event beautifully. If you would like to learn more about how your organisation can be more aware of and better support dying and death in your workforce or community, or you 'd like to work with us, please contact us at canberra@tenderfunerals.com.au. https://lnkd.in/gb-wEWyg The Snow Foundation, Canberra Airport, Hands Across Canberra, Bendigo Bank, Sefa, Tender Funerals Australia

We're just over a week into being operational and we are so proud of what's been happening in our space. We had three services in the building last week, with more this week, and the care and thought being shown is inspirational. This photo, shared with permission of the family, is just one of the beautiful memories being created. Vince was an artist and beloved husband and father. His family used his artworks and others from family and Painting with Parkinson's to decorate his coffin and made it an incredible final resting place, both inside and out. Thank you, Vince and family, for sharing this with our community. @daisyboxcaskets, #doityourway, #funerals, #cardboardcoffins,

We are very excited to have been selected to pitch @the-funding-network-australia (TFN) ‘Local Communities’ event in Canberra on Tuesday the 17th of September! Come along and join in the fun. On the night, we will be pitching to raise funds to kickstart our Pay It Forward Benevolent Fund, which we use to help families in financial distress avoid further debt and achieve the funeral that's right for them. We want you to have the opportunity to contribute. Come along on the night and have your donations doubled through matched funding! We will be joined by 2 other local non-profits - @fearlesswomen and @women-s-justice-network/ - who all work to tackle inequality and create solutions to complex social issues across the ACT. Mark this event in your diary. It promises to be a night of inspirational storytelling and a powerful celebration of collective giving not to be missed! Register for your FREE tickets here: https://ow.ly/VFuQ50Rt2mY 🤝 This event is made possible thanks to the invaluable support of @the-snow-foundation, alongside @Accenture, @aspen-medical-pty-ltd, @canberra-airport, @Clayton-Utz, @Hands-Across-Canberra, @John-James-Foundation and @The-Property-Collective. #TFNAus #TFNLIVE #livecrowdfunding #nonprofitstories #LocalCommunities #CanberraPhilanthropy

Putting an operation like a new Tender Funerals together is 100% the result of strong partnerships and we're really pleased to have Sefa, who have supported the other Tenders as well, join us and our other partners like The Snow Foundation, Braidwood Community Bank and Hands Across Canberra.
It's impactful to see Tender Funerals Australia featured in this article by The Guardian on the rising costs of funerals and the financial strain they place on grieving families. At Sefa, we champion the community-led, non-profit approach of Tender Funerals, which prepares people for end-of-life and supports them through it without the burden of high costs. This approach resonates deeply with our values and mission. Tender Canberra is nearing its opening, with plans to expand next to Western Sydney & Tasmania. The third Tender franchise underscores the significant need for such services, evidenced by community donations and the overwhelming support from local philanthropic organisations like the The Snow Foundation, Hands Across Canberra, and Community Bank Braidwood and Districts (Bendigo Bank). “There is a clear need for a service like this in the Canberra Region. We have community donations and regular enquiries for support, even before we open in August. We have major philanthropic donations and corporate in-kind contributions, because the need is recognised. And we're able to collaborate with organisations like Sefa for additional finance, because the business model for providing meaningful funerals in a financially sustainable way is also clear. Our community wants and needs more options for affordable funerals." - Catherine Prosser, General Manager Tender Funerals Canberra Region. We invite community groups looking to establish a local franchise and philanthropists interested in participating in a proven, blended capital solution to empower local communities. Join us and Tender Funerals Australia in supporting campaigns bringing meaningful, affordable funerals to more communities across Australia. #CommunityLed #NonProfit #AffordableFunerals #Philanthropy #SocialImpact

Are you the perfect person to join our expanding team? Or do you know the perfect person? We're currently seeking expressions of interest from people who share our passion for making meaningful and affordable funerals available to everyone. Funeral and mortuary experience is helpful, but training is available for the right applicant. https://lnkd.in/gg9jtBN3

Our chair, Catherine Bell, and GM, Catherine Prosser, were delighted to join this amazing bunch of people for the first event in a 6 months' long leadership program created by The Snow Foundation with the Social Impact Hub. This is a great opportunity for us at the start of our operational journey and we're really looking forward to getting to know everyone and their for-purpose organisations.
Lead the Way has launched! A new leadership program co-designed with the Social Impact Hub with input from leaders in the for-purpose sector, to address the need for dedicated capacity building among CEOs and senior leaders. We are thrilled to announce that 15 of our existing partners have joined the program, with two senior members from each organisation participating. Lead the Way is designed to inspire, equip, and connect our partners in Canberra and Sydney. It offers an immersive and practical experience aimed at developing leadership skills, fostering connections, and amplifying the impact of their organisations. Lead the Way opened with a retreat at Wildbark at Mulligans Flat Sanctuary, perfect for reflection, strategic planning, and building strong bonds. We loved seeing the enthusiasm and openness of our participants as they got to know each other, laying a strong foundation of trust and collaboration, essential for elevating their leadership capabilities. We’re excited to accompany this dynamic group over the next six months! For more details on our first cohort of 29 CEOs and senior leaders, visit https://bit.ly/3y9kMag Special thanks to the Social Impact Hub for their invaluable guidance and partnership in launching this program. We had another site visit last week with the teams from the @Canberra-Airport and @moltus-construction-pty-ltd. It was very exciting to see the walls starting to be covered and get a better sense of the light and space. We were lucky enough to have Jenny Briscoe-Hough from @Tender-Funerals-Australia down to have a sneak peak as well. It's great to start talking about the little details like 'Which way should this door open?', not the big details like 'Where is our building going to be?'! Looking forward to being able to show everyone through.
