It's late at night as I click the next tab to open another award entry to judge on my laptop. The room is quiet, my husband has long since gone to bed and my eyes are starting to glaze over... In the opening statement of the entry, I notice lots of spelling errors and grammatical mistakes (which is weird as my dyslexia normally skips over these). I can also see tell-tale signs of AI verboseness and some of the sentences don't really make much sense - they are more flowery statements than insightful, metric-backed compositions to help me understand why this nominee should be rewarded. It's incredibly easy to spot an award entry that's been rushed. This is one of the main reasons we advise that if you have less than a week before an award closes and you haven't had time to craft compelling content, you should look for another award to enter! The final polish of your entry can be the make or break of your award-winning chances. You've poured your heart and soul into answering those award application questions, but then hit the submit button before you take a step back, grab a cup of tea (or something stronger!), and revisit your answers with a fresh perspective, you could be letting yourself down big time. Re-reading is crucial to award success, and giving yourself time to put your entry aside for a day or two, then come back to it with fresh eyes - paying attention to the flow and clarity of your answers and looking for areas where you can improve the language or tighten up the structure, can make your entry truly shine.
