This week at Melbourne Fashion Week, we were proud to collaborate with Collarts (Australian College of the Arts) by providing unusable excess clothing for redesign and repurposing. The talented Collarts Fashion and Sustainability students created incredible garments using excess stock for the Threads Regenerated Marketplace, showcasing hand-crafted, innovative, and sustainable fashion. This initiative not only reduces waste and keeps fashion in circulation but also demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and innovation. Together, we’re taking steps toward a more sustainable approach to fashion. #MFW2024 #FashionandSustainability #EthicalFashion

Diverting brand new clothes from landfill and giving these to people in need
About us
By working with Australian fashion brands and charities, Thread Together drives social and environmental change. We help those in need by managing fashion excess, distributing surplus clothes to people who are doing it tough - the highest ethical response to this potential waste. Did you know that millions of items of new clothes get dumped into landfill every year? We believe that manufacture to waste without a purpose in between makes no sense. Not when there are so many people that need help. Drive social and environmental change at your next staff volunteering day. More than just a feel-good experience for corporates, our days are designed to increase team productivity, boost cooperation and attract and retain quality staff whilst making a positive impact on the community and environment. Your support will ensure our service continues to respond to need.

Last week, we were pleased to welcome Hon. Matt Thistlethwaite who learned more about Thread Together's services and even helped package a clothing request for someone in need. We appreciate his support in raising awareness about our work. Thank you!

Last week, our CEO Anthony participated in the Future Fashion System Panel which was themed around 'Rethinking Fashion in Victoria – From Waste to Circularity', alongside Courtney Holm from A.BCH (ABCH Pty Ltd), Ben Kaminsky from Textile Recyclers Australia, University of Melbourne, Miriam Borcherdt and Nicoletta Stecca. He spotlighted the challenges of surplus stock and seasonality in fashion, sharing how Thread Together connects brand-new unsold garments to Australians in need. He also advocated for reducing over production. It was an insightful discussion on creating a more sustainable and equitable fashion future, and we look forward to participating in more conversations like this!

Earlier this year, we identified Geelong as a high-need area for our services using data insights. Since then, we’ve onboarded local charities to better support the community. This week, we hosted multiple mobile wardrobe events, providing the community with the choice of brand-new clothing to help restore dignity and confidence. A big thank you to The Outpost Inc., Meli, Cultura and Geelong Food Relief for hosting us and assisting in our efforts to serve the Geelong community in need. A special thanks to the Geelong Community Foundation, Give Where You Live Foundation, Costa Foundation and APCO Foundation for their support which has made this expansion possible. Yesterday, we attended the Eat.Shop.Chop event, hosted by OzHarvest in partnership with Thread Together and Sustainable Salons. As the cost of living continues to impact the broader community, this event brings together a collective of charities to provide essential services and a space where the local community can come together with dignity, choosing their own clothes and food, and accessing essential services that many of us often take for granted. This annual event is dedicated to compassion and service, offering free meals, brand-new clothing and haircuts to those in need. We were proud to provide the community with the choice of brand new clothing.

CEO I Thread Together I Saving brand-new clothes from landfill and providing these clothes to people in need to restore dignity and hope
Each year, I take on something outside my comfort zone. This year, I'm taking on a personal challenge, running a marathon! 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️ But this isn't just about pushing my own limits—it's about raising crucial funds for Thread Together. As I have discovered, running a marathon is no small feat. It requires dedication, training, and a fair bit of mental grit. In many ways, it's similar to the challenges faced by those we support at Thread Together. Every day, we're on a mission to provide brand-new clothing to people in need, helping them regain their dignity and confidence during tough times. As I prepare for this 42.2 km journey, I’m reminded that every step is an opportunity to make a difference. That's where you come in. By supporting my marathon run, you can help us go the extra mile (literally and figuratively) to provide essential clothing to those who need it most. Your support means more than just clothing—it's about giving people the chance to rebuild their lives with dignity. New Clothes for New Beginnings. Together, let's make every step count! 👟👟👟 Please click below if you would like to support. https://lnkd.in/gcm6zr9V
