Nourishing Our Country. $1 = 2 meals

About us

Founded by Ronni Kahn AO in 2004, OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation with a driving purpose to ‘Nourish our Country’. Our mission is to stop food waste, feed people in need and protect our planet by championing the value of food and driving change at all levels of society. The impact of our work is strongly aligned to achieving five United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. OzHarvest is best known for our iconic yellow food rescue vans which save over 250 tonnes of good food every week and deliver it direct to charities that feed people in need. We’re also creating positive change through three national education programs (FEAST, NEST and Nourish), and through our advocacy work raising awareness about food security and doing whatever we can to halve Australia’s food waste by 2030. Innovation is part of our DNA and we’re always looking to add value to what we do and find new ways to tackle food waste and feed hungry people. We’re pioneering social impact projects from free supermarkets (OzHarvest Market) and a restaurant (Refettorio OzHarvest) that feeds people in need and creating revenue generating products via OzHarvest Ventures. Our unique for-impact, food rescue model has been implemented across the globe in New Zealand, UK, South Africa, Vietnam and Japan. Every $1 donated allows OzHarvest to deliver 2 meals to people in need.

Right now, more Australians are struggling to put food on the table than ever before. The cost-of-living crisis is pushing families to the brink - a third of people seeking help are doing so for the first time. In response to this high level of demand for food and as part of continuously improving efficiencies in our food rescue operations, we’ve opened a brand-new OzHarvest hub in Wetherill Park, Western Sydney. This hub will create a greater impact in the community: ✅ 75,000 extra kilos of food rescued every year—perfectly good food that would’ve gone to waste, now reaching those who need it most. ✅ Our drivers starting and finishing their runs in the heart of Western Sydney, cutting travel time and getting food out faster. ✅ 75 more food pickups every week, so more charities get more food, more often. ✅ communities in need supported across five routes, including Liverpool, Campbelltown, Penrith, Richmond, and Mt Annan, with two more to be added by June 2025. ✅ Most importantly, 25 charities are finally off our waitlist in the region. A huge thank you to the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and our National Partner Woolworths Supermarkets — your support makes this critical work possible. The new hub is part of OzHarvest’s wider expansion plans to better support people in need in Western Sydney, aiming to grow the reach of education programs, improve access to larger food suppliers, and recruit local team members. When people are desperate, we need to act. Every meal we rescue makes a real difference. 💛 Anglicare Sydney

  • It’s #FoodWasteActionWeek. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on what we’re doing in Australia, where we waste 7.6 million tonnes of food, costing $36.6 billion each year and contributing to climate change - but the good news is that households can lead the way. With Australia committed to halving food waste by 2030—aligned with UN SDG 12.3—scalable, accessible solutions like Use It Up Tape are key to making waste reduction easier at home. By working together, small changes lead to big impact. Sources: OzHarvest.org Voedingscentrum lovefoodhatewaste NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) End Food Waste Australia #FightFoodWaste

  • It’s #FoodWasteActionWeek, we’re highlighting how different nations are stepping up to reduce waste. From household action to groundbreaking policies, the fight against food waste looks different across all nations. South Korea is leading the charge in tackling food waste with one of the world’s most effective waste management systems. We need better food waste policies here in Australia. Join Food Waste Fighters and help push for change so we can reduce food waste on a national scale. https://lnkd.in/gaNaMQ-N Keep following along during Food Waste Action Week as we explore how Australia is tackling food waste. What an incredible week we had last week at Climate Action Week Sydney - putting food waste front and centre in the climate conversation! 🌏💛   Here’s how our OzHarvest team got involved: 💛 At Climate Action Week Sydney, our Founder and Visionary-in-Residence, Ronni Kahn, led a powerful session on “The Mindset – Finding Solutions to Big Problems.” She shared the story of how OzHarvest started, the key steps in tackling food waste, and how we can all be part of the solution—whether through individual action or driving systemic change. 💛 At Climate Action Week Sydney, our Advocacy Manager Ruby Wake joined a panel to tackle the question “What’s one simple action young people can take to fight climate change AND save money?” The answer? It’s right in your kitchen. Saving food is one of the best, and easiest ways to slash your climate footprint! The panel explored the power of both individual and collective action - and when it comes to saving food, we need both! 💛 Did you know saving food is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to reduce your climate footprint? Last weekend, we joined the amazing crew at the Australian Museum’s Climate Solutions Saturday, sharing just how simple (and delicious!) it is to reduce food waste and fight climate change. Our legendary OzHarvest Chef James wowed the crowd with four live cooking demos, whipping up a tasty zero-waste meal and proving that every ingredient has the power to make a difference! He transformed surplus veg and stale bread into a refreshing Gazpacho (a Use It Up summer soup)! 🍅🥖   A massive THANK YOU to everyone who joined us, got involved, and took action to fight food waste. • Food waste is a global challenge, but solutions are everywhere! This #FoodWasteActionWeek, we’re highlighting how different nations are stepping up to reduce waste. In Colombia, they’ve created tax incentives to get surplus food off farms and onto plates. Should Australia do the same? Join Food Waste Fighters and help push for change so we can reduce food waste on a national scale. https://lnkd.in/gaNaMQ-N Follow along for more global solutions to food waste during Food Waste Action Week, or head to our feed to see our wrap-up of what changes the UK and France have made. • From at-home solutions to groundbreaking policies, the fight against food waste looks different everywhere. This #FoodWasteActionWeek, we’re sharing global success stories. Through removing "use-by" dates on fresh produce and switching some dairy products from use-by to best-before and other actions, the UK have cut food waste by almost a third in the last 10 years! This Food Waste Action Week, UK shoppers are being challenged to choose produce loose to buy just the amount needed and waste less. • In the wake of Tropical Cyclone Alfred's devastation, our yellow vans of hope are back in full swing in affected Queensland communities, across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, and Toowoomba. The road to recovery hasn't been easy. Many communities were already facing challenges before the cyclone hit. Now, with flood damage, road closures, business disruptions, and widespread food spoilage from power outages, the need for food relief has never been more urgent. Thanks to immediate assistance from our partner Suncorp Bank, we delivered much needed meals to charities across affected regions and our National Food Rescue Partner Woolworths Supermarkets who’s amazing store managers rallied to ensure surplus food was rescued. Our teams are working tirelessly to support more than 250 charities as they reopen their doors to help those most in need, particularly in the hardest-hit areas of Ipswich, Brisbane Bayside, Brisbane City, Logan, Caboolture, Tweed Heads, and Nambour. This is what community resilience looks like – coming together in times of crisis, turning surplus into purpose, and ensuring no one goes hungry during recovery. If you’d like to help, please visit ozharvest.org to learn how you can contribute to our ongoing cyclone relief efforts. 📢Watch QLD State Manager Michaela Windsor's update

  • We’re proud to foster a workplace that champions diversity and inclusivity. This #InternationalWomensDay, we’re celebrating the power of all the incredible women who make OzHarvest what it is – from our staff, volunteers, donors, partners and supporters. 💛   We’re excited to share insights from our latest Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) report, which highlights our strong female representation across the organisation. We are also proud to maintain a positive pay gap for women– a reflection of gender equity in action.   Only 6.5% of businesses maintain a positive pay gap for women and we are proud to be one of them! With a fierce commitment to empowering women, we report that in a workforce that is 50% women, 69% of our leadership roles, from our founder to board to frontline, are held by women.   Here’s to lifting each other up, breaking barriers and continuing to create a workplace where everyone can thrive.

WOW! It was an incredible experience having chefs Jowett Yu and Sarah Chan from Merivale at our Melbourne HQ last month—generously donating their time to lead one of our Cooking for a Cause sessions as part of the National Sustainability Festival. This hands-on workshop cooked up over 200 meals for people in need and left participants armed with the knowledge to become food waste fighters in their own homes. We’d also like to thank OXO for their generous support, donating a Green Saver food storage container for every participant—helping to fight food waste in our homes! Since 2020, OXO has been an awesome partner, sharing our mission to help Aussies fight food waste at home. Over the past five years, their support has helped us deliver an additional 850,000 meals to people in need, fund 113 schools through our FEAST program, and provide hundreds of OXO Sustainability Kits to enhance classroom learning. Are you looking for a meaningful corporate engagement opportunity? Our Cooking for a Cause sessions are the perfect way to bring your team together while learning how to fight food waste. Plus, you’ll cook delicious meals that go directly to people in need across Australia! 💛 Book a Cooking for a Cause session now! https://lnkd.in/gvwTDbzC
