I was thrilled to be part of Australia Post's launch of their Refugee Employment Action Plan as a new component of their Diversity and Inclusion Strategy. Congratulations to Paul Graham, Susan Davies (MBA), (GAICD) and Faiza Shakori for their exceptional leadership and dedication to this groundbreaking initiative. Setting an aspiration of 1.5% of the AP workforce to comprise individuals from a humanitarian background is truly transformative. This ambitious goal will drive an adaptation of recruitment and onboarding processes to optimise the contribution of refugee applicants. I hope this initiative can serve as an inspiration and blueprint for numerous other organisations to see humanitarian Australians as part of their Diversity and Inclusion platform and develop their own Refugee Employment Action Plans. By fostering a high demand for refugee talent among employers, we can drive the necessary adjustments in government employment and resettlement programs to facilitate refugees' swift access to employment opportunities upon arrival, eliminating existing barriers. Aligning government policies and programs with the private sector's strategic aspirations will not only benefit refugees and employers but also contribute to the overall advancement of Australia. As emphasised during the launch event, Australia Post's diversity underpins their strength, a sentiment that undeniably resonates with our nation as a whole. https://lnkd.in/gT55ja4B https://lnkd.in/gUGniEiR #AustraliaPost #DiversityandInclusion #RefugeeEmployment #Leadership #Innovation Thrive Refugee Enterprise Tony Burke Julian Hill Murray Watt Andrew Giles Natalie James Emma Cassar

Thrive Refugee Enterprise has collaborated with Australia Post on its first Refugee Employment and Engagement Action Plan (2024 – 2027). Australia Post recognises the value in the resilience and determination refugees bring and through the Plan aims to build on the inclusive and supportive environment they have created. As part of the Plan, Australia Post and Thrive are piloting a collective impact approach to accelerate refugee employment, collaborating with key players in the ecosystem including Government and refugee settlement service providers. This activity is modelling the value of a central point of coordination - a focal point for employers seeking to increase refugee employment in their diversity and inclusion plans for the future. The Australian Federal Government’s Multicultural Framework Review Report represents the most significant political support for multicultural cohesion seen in Australia since the 1980’s. Released this week, the much awaited Federal Government’s Multicultural Framework Review Report has been welcomed by Thrive Refugee Enterprise for its measures supporting greater multicultural cohesion. Culminating in 29 recommendations to build a stronger, more inclusive Australia, its themes of an inclusive workforce for a thriving economy are a powerful reminder that we still have a long way to go. With latest ABS Census data revealing 49% of Australia’s refugees who arrived after 2015 remained on unemployment payments in 2021, Thrive’s purpose and mission has never been so important. Today Thrive is working to build the capacity to connect more refugees to jobs and small business opportunities across the Australian economy. By working together with Government, large employers, SMEs, service providers, refugees and local communities, we can accelerate the path to financial self-reliance, magnify local integration efforts, build greater social cohesion and deliver economic value for local communities and all Australia.
