Had the most amazing time chatting about migrant founders with Sandy Li Ananya Sinha and Sandra Suen A massive thank you to all the people who came along - super humbled to be at the SXSW short talks stage to cover such an important topic. As Ananya mentioned, start-ups with 3 or 4 immigrant co-founders are 74% more likely to reach unicorn status. There are a series of significant correlations between immigrants, their education, their success in corporate leadership, and their success as founders. We spoke about the inherent cultural challenges that sometimes set us back - Sandy shared her own story navigating the gender roles that are pervasive in migrant families and how she has flipped this narrative for all the subsequent generations in her family. I loved Sandra's take on stoicism in our culture and why we need to change the perception around 'rocking the boat' and being happy with your lot in life. Completely agree with her that a migrant's ability to persevere through a sense of otherness and overcoming systemic barriers are key ingredients for creating remarkable founders. It goes without saying that if you're a migrant founder building game-changing technology, please reach out - I'd love to chat

Congratulations to Hannon Comazzetto from AirRobe for being named in The Australian's 2024 Top 100 Innovators List 🎀 Han is tackling the fashion industry’s notorious lack of sustainability head-on by putting circularity at the centre of how we buy, wear and rehome clothes. Through partnerships with fashion brands and retailers, AirRobe shows shoppers the potential resale value of an item before they’ve even added it to their cart. Once selected, they have the item instantly added to their AirRobe digital wardrobe and, when they’re ready, they can put it up for rent or sale as second-hand. “Addressing the global fast-fashion waste problem requires a shift in consumer demand for higher-quality, longer-lasting products,” Comazzetto says. “To facilitate this transition, we provide fashion brands and consumers with the necessary tools to seamlessly integrate into the circular economy.”

The dirty little secret about pitching to VCs is that the flashy deck doesn’t matter unless you can sell the unique insight your team has identified and how you’re uniquely positioned to solve it. So we decided to speak about that at SXSW Sydney! I had a great time chatting about some of our favourite portfolio companies with Jackie Vullinghs and Georgie Turner, followed by a candid discussion between Taryn Pieterse, Cheryl Mack and Kunal Vankadara about the dirty little secrets to running a successful raise. Thanks to OnePitch VC and Giant Warm Intro for making it happen. Five V Capital Airtree Tidal Ventures Rampersand Aussie Angels Haast
